He could, but he could also get hurt, and we're stuck with an over 35 deal. - MJL
Anyone can get hurt and Streit has pretty much been injury free with the exception of the one year for shoulder surgery and that can happen to any nhler. |

I would not touch Whitney with a 10' pole. He is a huge injury risk (just what we don't need another of) and was not good enough to crack a Oiler lineup. He would be a huge gamble whereas Streit would be a good pick. Bottom line is you usually get what you pay for. - flyerdude17
I agree. Really have zero interest in Whitney. I want them to make a move for the long term if it is available. |

Yes it can. But the 35+ rule changes things. And makes him different from any nhler. We already have one 35+ player hampering the Off Season. Don't need another.

Whitney did struggle early, but he played much better down the stretch.
I'd rather pay a lower price and hope a guy can rebound than pay a high price. If Whitney or whomever they add falters, it could open a door for Gustafsson |

The market is weak and despite his age, Streit is probably the best available guy. If he's going to get a $6mm cap hit as an over 35, I'd rather try to get Whitney on a two year deal for less cash. - Jsaquella
I'd rather go the short term this is the best way to go. |

I'd rather just open the door now for Gustafsson.

That would be my first choice as well. Edler, Yandle, Johnson or somebody of that age and ability level would be ideal.
But they will need fall back options, as well. |

Outside of landing an Edler/Johnson/Yandle type, he'd already be playing a big role for me.
EDIT: Honestly, Gustafsson could well save Holmgren from an overaggressive move this summer. If it boiled down to Streit at $6mm for 4 years or Gustafsson assuming a bigger role, to me, it's time for the Gus Bus |

Would you kick the tires on seeing what the price tag would be for Rundblad? |

I think Gustafsson is penciled in for a top 6 spot. It's his to lose. However, I also think they need a top pairing high minute puck mover in addition to whatever Gustafsson can provide. They need to change the mix of this defense.

I agree that they could use one, but if the cost is too high, they may have to make other adjustments. |

I would not give up a major asset for Rundblad personally.

They may have to. But realistically, they may really need to add two defenseman to this mix. If they hope to become a top team. Unless Gustafsson can become more then a 3rd pair player.

So Brad Marchand has been suspended. But it isn't like Danny Briere is angel boy out there. He's known for being sneaky dirty, particularly with the stick. And he'd carve your heart out for a goal. Yes he's classy with media and fans and a team leadership guy. But what about Marchand other than the Salo hit has everyone all annoyed at him? If facial appearance counted here no one would be all swoony in memory about Brind'amour. It isn't that he plays a 2-way game at his size, something Danny doesn't do.
Are we perhaps confusing him with the former goony head hunter weenie with the similar last name (who somehow is just hovering on the edge of my brain--Todd Marchant???). - bodiva88
dont get me wrong. im not saying briere was a total vagina. he was never one to be physically imposing due to his size, but he wouldnt totally back away from things. however, marchant... just ugh. not gonna lie, the face thing probably has more to do with it than i care to admit. but other than that, yeah it is the sneakiness factor to his dirtiness. i know there are other dirty players out there, say raffi torres for example. call it moronic or whatnot, but hed think nothing of just throwing a total elbow with the spotlight right on him. marchant's are just constant, sly little dirtiness.
dont get me wrong, i totally understand my hatred for him means hes doing his job. but god id love to break his nose. i dont think id have the testicular fortitude to even dream of doing the same to lucic |

Very true, but at the same time, they have a young core. This isn't a group of 30 year olds whose window is closing fast. |

Right! I've always said, don't just make a move to make one. Make the right move. Having Timonen for another year, buys some time. But they're in a tough spot. But things change in a hurry in the NHL. And especially with the Flyers.

I have to admit my hatred of Boston has fizzled watching them spank the penguins like an unwanted stepchild . If the flyers want a system to follow, which I suggest they re-evaluate the one they have, Boston and Detroit are two teams I suggest they look at. |

If you gotta emulate somebody, they are the two best choices. |
