There are some teams out there you could say are in cap trouble, and will have to get creative to fit under. San Jose is about $10M under with 8 guys to sign. One of them is Ryan Clowe. That’s tight, but not really a huge issue, like some other teams are seeing. I can’t see them doing anything too drastic to get under the cap.

You've just provided a reason for San Jose trading Joe Thornton.

You still need to give a reason why the Sharks would accept Toronto's dog poop in return.

I did? I didn’t mean to. I actually tried to suggest that they’re not in enough trouble to do something stupid like that.

Jesus, I'm like the drunk guy at the bar, trying to pick fights with people, thinking I'm looking all cool and tough, while everybody just shakes their heads in embarrassment.

What did you just call me?

I'll just go quietly.

Has MLSEL ever cheaped out on anything since Stavro lost control?

Please enlighten us.

So you're guaranteeing that Strome will be a high end talent. If he were a high end talent that would instantly improve the team there's a better chance they make the move then spending that kinda money on a high end prospect.

apparantley you dont

they dont have to pay the 25million out all at once.. i believe it would be spread out over 16 years for DP

therefore it would only cost MLSE 1.5625million per year to deepen their prospect pool.

chump change for them

They'd set up a booth outside the ACC before games.

It would be similar to a kissing booth, but instead you'd get to punch a stupid jerk Oilers fan from the Maritimes right in the face.

Instant profit.

25M is a massive payment that the Leafs aren't going to want to pick up for nothing; it would take a Strome and a roster player with a roster player and some cap going the other way for that to work out.

Problem is, Wang needs to put a good product on the ice to sell season tickets: while Brooklyn is huge, it's not a hockey town, and he's going to need to ice a competitive, perennial-playoff team to keep the season tickets selling, and the only way to do that is to draft well and hang onto your top-end prospects like Strome.

So we have to do the deal with an NHL GM named John Smith?

I am telling you that Strome IS a highly ranked Prospect, not by me..but by people who rank prospects. Hockey Futures last Prospect rankings have him at #11 (Rielly is #9 for reference) if you think that's a reasonably respectable site.

I think if you add prospects with High(er) ceilings you have a better chance of succeeding. Not all of them work out, but some do.

that said, there is no way the Isls move him. that would be the same as the leafs moving Rielly

You're right apparently I don't. If that's the case, if the buyouts paid over 16 years then why would NYI do this. If this is true then I eat my words.

I broke this down in another thread but basically you're paying a 1.5M tax for 16 years for a player that might not even give you 5 serviceable years, let alone make a significant impact like taking us to the cup on his back; this is not Sydney Crosby here.

There's nothing in the deal that says Strome has to stay here or re-sign with us, that's the risk.

Sushi is pretty soft - you don't need front teeth to enjoy a Leafs game.
