? Edler would automatically be your best defenseman. Yes, ahead of Hedman.
- Boinker

No. Hedman is awesome, don't want that overpaid, overrated Edler (jks, but no thanks)

No. Edler would be our second best defenseman, behind Hedman. I'll take Hedman's defensive stability over Edler's inconsistencies any day of the week. With Edler, you never know what you're going to get.

Honestly, I miss enough Lightning game not to be able to compare fairly, but Edler is a very good Dman. He gets the most minutes, toughest assignments and the job of evening up the game when the team is behind. Not an easy role, but he does it well regardless. He's not Lidstrom, but he's definitely an all-star. Is Hedman there yet?

No doubt that Edler is a good, even very good, defender. When on his game, you're absolutely correct that he's an all-star. The issue for me over the last couple of seasons has been that he's just lost that consistency factor that made him so successful earlier in his career. Coming off the injuries he had, I understand that it takes time. That said, at this point, I'll take the healthy/consistent Hedman who does a lot of the same things Edler does (albeit at a slightly lower level) every day of the week given where their contracts are. I still think that Hedman is a better skater and puck mover than Edler, though.

If Edler could play at a good level for 70+ games per season, this wouldn't even be a discussion. Good Edler is better than every day Hedman, but bad Edler isn't nearly as good as every day Hedman. I'll take the guy who brings the same thing on a nightly basis.

stay away from the idea of trading our 3rd i hate it! idk who edler is loland stay away from that damn thread
- RileyB77

He is a damn good young Dman. Though the Canucks thread is where you will find the most ridiculous trade proposals you will ever find this one is not so far fetched. It would give you immediate help on your blue line and he is someone who can grow with the team. Think of him as an already developed first round draft pick. With that said in the new NHL I just can't see anyone trading their pick in the top 3 especially in this draft. Not happening IMO

Top 5 UFA picks for our Blueline.

1. Rob Scuderi- 6'1" 216 lbs
Career numbers- 585 games, 7 goals, 79 assists (86 points), +17 +/-
Not even remotely offensive, but a rock on the back end. Reliable, smart patient and strong.

2. Robyn Regehr- 6'3" 225 lbs
Career numbers- 943 games, 30 goals, 142 assists (172 points) +14 +/-
Twice Scuderi's point output in 250-ish more games and similiar +/- means more offensive output with a slight drop off in defensive reliablilty.

3. Adam Pardy- 6'4" 220 lbs
Career numbers- 200 games, 4 goals, 29 assists (33 points) +2 +/-
Not a huge collection of games, but a +2 on Buffalo and there struggles. Again low points, but defensively stable.

4. Steve Eminger- 6'2" 207 lbs
Career numbers- 488 games, 19 goals, 80 assists (99 points) -42 +/-
His +/- makes most cringe, but he hasn't played on spectacular teams either. Played for us once before with some suscess.

5. Ryan Whitney- 6'4" 209 lbs
Career games- 474 games, 50 goals, 209 assists (259 points) -23 +/-
Not a defensive stall worth, but can put up some numbers for us. At any rate I'll take the first 3 anyway.

Regehr signed an extension with the Kings for two years, if I'm not mistaken.

I was going by capgeek.com, they still have him as a UFA. Just move everyone up and ad Andrew Alberts.

Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. This team doesn't need another 6/7/8 guy. We have rookies who can fill that slot. This team needs a guy who can play in that 3/4/5 role. Andrew Alberts is not that guy.

With his skill? Maybe. His injury history and contract at $5M make me wary though.

Another injury prone player? What are we trying to, making the Glass-Ass line?
Malone-Lecavalier-Hemsky, they can play rock/paper/sissor in the press box together!

He didn't say for the Lightning. He asked whether we thought he was worth a second round pick. On a team that desperately needs a top six playmaker, sure. I wouldn't give up a second for him on the Lightning. He's not worth anything to us.

I assumed it was us, because I didn't read any other team and this a Bolt blog after all.

What he's worth and what the Lightning should pay are two very different things.
