How old was Dwayne Roloson when you guys road him to a Game 7 of the Stanley cup finals ? He was amazing that year. How old was Tim Thomas when he led Boston to the cup ? . There are plenty more where those came from.

tim thomas isn't the standard. He's the exception. You won't see another goalie have a .938 at 37 ever again.

And the Wings. And let's not forget, Quick was just good before last postseason.

There was a time he looked better.

I say aim for competent goaltending, stop trying to build around it.

Our problem is not Miller!
Our problem is, and has been DARCY for the past 16 years!!
He has never been able to put a quality product on the ice, and now he is fooling the fans, and Mr. Pegula by convincing everyone that we have to start from scrach, and get rid of Miller, and Vanek.
In fact, the first one that needs to go is DARCY himself!
He has been the biggest CANCER on this team, and it is going to get worse, yet.

It's a shame Pittsburgh traded all their prospects worth a damn for Morrow and Iginla. I'm guessing they might definitely make a phone call if Miller is available.
- buffalofan19

Darcy would never ever make that trade. He would be firing himself and he would have to go into witness protection and be sent to Nunavout.

Brodin easily deserved the calder this year. Top pairing D man at 19? Hmm trade him away for a 33YO goalie on the decline of his career and a 2nd round pick

- TheNugeIsHuge

Yep, Minnesota trading Brodin is just crazy talk! Same with Charlie Coyle as Garth suggested. Neither one of those guys are going anywhere for a long time. You're talking about two rookies who are playing full time on the top line pairings with Suter / Parise. You don't trade those kind of prospects! Zucker and Granlund are also staying put unless the deal was really just too good to pass up.

From the current Wild roster; Heatley, Clutterbuck, Setoguchi, Brodziak, and probably Gilbert could likely be moved. From the AHL squad, I'm sure they would move Cuma if they could, and probably Zach Phillips if the return was right since they have good forward depth in the system.

I think in the Pominville trade, the real key player was Johan Larson. I know it just killed the Wild's scouting staff to lose him, much more than Hackett or the 1st rounder. There's no doubt Buffalo made a haul on that trade, but the Wild have stockpiled a ton of prospects over the last couple years and don't have enough spots for them all to play.

I don't see Minnesota going after Miller. He'd be more expensive than Backstrom and not a big enough improvement to justify the cap crunch it would cause. Vanek makes more sense, but they would probably just wait a year and sign him as a free agent if he gets there. Vanek lives in Minnesota and obviously has a connection with Pomminville. He doesn't sound too keen on the Buffalo rebuild either.

I'm talking about the model of building net out. That's Darcy's approach.

That would never happen!
If Darcy let Vanek walk, he will get fired(Which I hope he does!)

I agree Buffalo would never let him walk. They will trade him if they can't get an extension. Vanek, just makes more sense than Miller if you want to talk about current Buffalo players going to MN. Vanek has MN ties that sort of make sense in the long run.

How old was Roloson ? Lots of Goalies are very effective till their late 30's , How old is Brodeur ? How old was Roy when he was leading Colorado ?

Athletes are playing more skillfully and effectively to a later age. With the expanded development of kinesiology and athletes working out harder and more effectively, there will be more players, expecially goalies, who play to a later age.

Yeah I really don't see either of them going there. If Minny doesn't want to give up anything meaningful for Vanek he won't get traded there, and what you said about Miller before is spot on. I think they are looking for a stop-gap while Keumper develops.

Once again though, Vanek specifically said that he would like to stay in Buffalo as long as we aren't going for a long rebuild like Pittsburgh or Edmonton (i.e. 5+ years). I don't think that is what is going on, and our 'rebuild' started last year when we traded Roy, Gaustad, and Kassian. Also, Vanek lives in Buffalo and spends off time in Minnesota.

Garth is off about Minnesota being in really serious cap trouble, they will likely use a buyout on Heatley IMO, and not resign a couple of players. As far as trades I don't think Granlund is quite as untouchable as everyone thinks, with the emergence of Coyle who knows

7.5 cap hit, $5 mil salary.

IMO perfect fit for a team like the Islanders who like to obtain guys with with high cap hits and lower salary.

I know many don't agree with me but he would also be a suitable replacement if they move Vanek prior to the season. They'd also be able to move him at the deadline and gain more picks and prospects.
