The hawks D has been incredible keeping opponents SOG to a league minimum. Corey has benefited from that. The second the D is less than stellar, Corey is no longer superhuman. We need to understand our strengths and our weaknesses. Corey is Not our strength. He may not be a complete weakness but you have to admit even he looks behind himself a lot after a shot.

I don't know about that. He looked pretty superhuman on Penner yesterday when Seabrook was "less than stellar"

He has to do his job: if the skaters do their job, Crawford's job is to make the saves he has to make. He doesn't have to be Quick or Lundquist or Rinne; he just can't be Huet or Turco - or Crawford of last year's play-offs.

As bad as he can look sometimes, as much of an adventure as he an be, he's certainly done his job this year.

Boy its painful watching Pens right now. Is this what Hawks looked like vs Detroit....Yikes....

Bylsma must have effed with the lineup ... it wouldn't have anything to do with the Bruins trapping and hitting and clutching and grabbing ....

The Hawks penalty kill doesn't allow less shots than any other PK, they are very league average in that regard, buoyed by an insane PK SV%, which, you know, is that goalie guy

Pens being exposed for what they are: structurally undisciplined, a one-trick pony.

Have to wonder if Bylsma pays the price if this apparent meltdown ultimately comes to fruition.

So you're saying the Hawks have an average PK made great only because of who's behind net? This is clearly untrue to the point of absurdity.

Please read this page, everything I stated was a fact. Look at the Hawks absurd save percentage. Don't call things absurd you aren't educated on. He's not the only reason, but he is certainly the main reason

I think he gets a pass. Their goalies and D have been pretty horrendous and they loaded up on forwards at the deadline.......oh yeah, and Douglas Murray

Crawford is part of the 7 man defence corps and he definitely benefits from having that group in front of him. They aren't all individuals, they are a cohesive team that is working very well, as it has all season. The team addressed what they identified as a big problem area by bringing in Rozsival and Brookbank. They didn't go crazy looking to add a goaltender. Do you notice the defensive improvement as a result of adding #32 and managing Leddy's minutes?

You want a superstar in goal because Corey doesn't make you happy - you"ll need to dump salary. Lets start with Patrick Kane who also benefits from that defensive group when he goes on one of his numerous turnover forays.

No it is everyone equally to create a great PK! But the goalie is the last line of defense....

Thanks for the link, and your point is taken. But you can't tell me these numbers mean Crow is the "main" reason for the success of the PK. It's still a team effort, and the 4-5 SOG numbers don't tell the whole story of the quality of the shots being saved, and it could be argued that the work of guys like Frolik and Kruger are making it more difficult for opponents to get quality shots off, and making it easier for Crawford to make the saves that he does.

Obviously, you can't have a great PK if your goalie is terrible, but any very good NHL goalie would be the beneficiary of the PK unit in front of him, and the Hawks PK would still be elite.

Pretty awesome, guy's a goal scorer. I wonder, and this isn't a critique because thats an amazing stat/production, if its because teams work so hard on Toews and Kane, he sees a little more free ice? Either way, that kind of goal production alone is worth his contract

So, can we say now that all that trade deadline activity by the Pens was because the Shero knew they had serious flaws? None of those added have looked like they were even worth one little crap in these two games.
