My guess is that the Board of Directors for MLSE would not agree.
Of all the players outside the NHL, is Strome even in the top 10? He's a good prospect, but 22 million is a lot of money, even for MLSE.
They aren't going to part with that kind of scratch unless it puts butts in seats or gets them more home playoff games. A kid who hasn't even set foot on NHL ice isn't worth 22 million unless he's the next coming of Crosby.
Again, we're talking MLB/NFL money here. And only the Sidney Crosbys of baseball and football got that kind of money - and they didn't even get that much. - Leeman4Gilmour
Way to compare 1 year of salary ( BTW Justin Verlander makes more than that) to getting somebody for potentially a full 10-15 year career.
I think there are prospects/picks potentially available, but to think you'd be getting half a farm system is ridiculous.
Also, it could be argued that Strome will help you advance a round or even make the playoffs down the road and much of that buyout money would be recovered........in 1 round. |

Better idea. Why don't you trade the first rounders for Seguin and Dougie Hamilton? - NYI_since_72
This coming from the guy whose team has given up
Marchand, Hamjerlsoon, Leddy, Hackett, Greg Campbell, Spezza, Chara, Jokinen, and Luongo
for
Yashin, Kvasha and Parish |

I'm talking about one time, rookie signing bonuses.
The thing about the MLB is that a lot of the high end prospects fall down the board because teams know they can't afford to sign them.
The Nationals made headlines by drafting Strasburg, then giving him his desired bonus of 7.5 million dollars.
The biggest NFL rookie signing bonus is Andrew Luck at 14.5.
In the case of taking on DiPi to buy him out, we're talking about MLSE cutting a cheque for 24 million (22 if they take back Komi) just for the rights to a player. That's before you even think about his future salary.
Nobody in his right mind would pay that money for anything less than the best prospect in hockey, at a minimum.
MLB franchises routinely pass on elite prospects because they can't afford 6-7 million dollar signing bonuses. And the going rate for Ryan Strome is 22 million? No way. |

Have you guys considered that maybe what you need to get Grabovski's line going is to flank him with two more small one-dimensional forwards who hold onto the puck for too long?
Hemsky + Omark for Franson - Morris

This from a prized franchise like the leafs who havent won a cup since 1967. There were two stupid trades by Milbdweeb but can't take credit for giving up Marchand, Hamjerlsoon, Leddy , Hackett and Campbell as they were never NYI players. Please check your leaf sources |

The package would no doubt have to be larger both directions for things to make financial sense.
By that I mean perhaps more going to the Islanders, perhaps a Liles or Grabovski in addition to Komisarek.. that way the Isles spend but spend less and perhaps in Liles or Grabovski's case they get a player who could be useful to them - forgoing the buyout altogether. With them likely losing Streit to free-agency, Liles would fill that void to some degree. |

They were the draft picks the Mets, I mean Islanders traded for players that never made the NHL let alone finished top 10 in scoring in the NHL twice by the age of 25.

YAY ITS CRAZY TRADE PROPOSAL TIME!
To NYI
Kessel
Komisarek
Liles
To TOR
Tavares
Niederreiter
Streit
DiPietro
Edit: I guess Streit is a UFA, so Isles would have to sweeten the deal with some stud D man like carkner |

Merely pointing out that they were in the same situation for the Leafs as
Marchand, Hamjerlsoon, Leddy , Hackett and Campbell for the Isles.
Anyhow Rask is the worst trade made with Boston in my opinion. |

also this is a fun fact, both raycroft and justin pogge, who the leafs decided was going to be better than rask which is why they dealt him to boston, now ply their trade in italy. makes you wonder if it was the GM or the talent evaluators (scouts or whoever does that) who were to blame for that catastrophe |

Mets are another problem for another day. At least they have some good young guys coming up soon in Darnaud and Sindergaard |
