Strome is not a little something he's a top prospect and expected to be very good. Also, think about it from the isles perspective. They're going to trade their top prospect in order to buy out DP. That would be stupid - NYI44
Strome isn't a little something. He is worth $20 mil to the owner.
Edit: What is $20 mil worth then? |

to everyone saying the komi for dipietro and strome is stupid, remember this is charles wang. this guy cares more about the money than the team i guarantee you, which is why theyre a cap floor team. its still a 99% chance something like this doesnt happen but if any team were to do it, its the isles. |

Mike why waste a compliance buyout on Komisarek.... a regular buyout would only be 1.667 million for 2 years.... since his salary is only 3.5 million this year even though cap is 4.5 million - jribout
with only one year left and lower salary i'm sure there might be a team out there that may take him to help get to the floor it would only cost a 7th rounder anyways |

Komi would save them $1 mil since his cap hit is 4.5mil and salary 3.5mil. Although i think they'll start putting more money in the team and $20mil goes a long way into doing that.

Gretzky was sold for 15 million bucks (I assume US dollars) back in 1988. Inflation adjusted, that's just under 30 million today.
So, DiPi's buy-out should get you a pretty damn good hockey player, I'd think. Think the best player in the history of hockey, then back it off just a bit. |

Mike why waste a compliance buyout on Komisarek.... a regular buyout would only be a cap hit of 2.167 this year and 1.667 million next.... since his salary is only 3.5 million this year even though cap is 4.5 million - jribout
an islander compliance buyout would be 2.33 million for the isles |

Gretzky was sold for 15 million, three firsts, the King's 2nd best prospect (Martin Gelinas) and the King's best prospect, a 20 year old who was 8th in league scoring with 107 points. So a little more than the dollar figure
EDIT: I guess McSorely and Krushelnyski went with Gretz too, so subtract that. |

Yes, and the Kings also received McSorley and Krushelnyski, who were both decent players in their own right.
The point is that when we're talking about cutting a cheque for 24 million dollars, we're talking about a hell of a lot more than than Ryan Strome.
The comparable is more like Toronto's next couple first rounders and Komisarek for DiPietro and Tavares.
We're out 22 million and two first rounders and we get a Hart Trophy nominee. |

Better idea. Why don't you trade the first rounders for Seguin and Dougie Hamilton? |

My guess is that the Board of Directors for MLSE would not agree.
Of all the players outside the NHL, is Strome even in the top 10? He's a good prospect, but 22 million is a lot of money, even for MLSE.
They aren't going to part with that kind of scratch unless it puts butts in seats or gets them more home playoff games. A kid who hasn't even set foot on NHL ice isn't worth 22 million unless he's the next coming of Crosby.
Again, we're talking MLB/NFL money here. And only the Sidney Crosbys of baseball and football got that kind of money - and they didn't even get that much. |
