You're correct, to say it was embellishment is just plain stupid. I just wonder if Brown had did that to Kane, would you guys be singing the same tune. I don't think it deserves a suspension, but it was a penalty after looking at it again. He left his feet and that's a penalty, always.

he left his feet after contact, nice try though.

Why waste a compliance buyout on Rostislav Olesz? Why not use a regular
buyout for his last remaining year? It would be better used on a ugly multiyear contract. Can you say "pizza" ?

- Beaver-Warrior

Just speculating, but what IF the Hawks win the Cup this year and Hossa decides to retire on top. The Hawks could have a handshake agreement with Hossa where they use the compliance buyout instead in order to avoid the cap recapture that would hurt the Hawks greatly, and Hossa leaves with a bundle of money saying "Thank You".

I agree there is no one with Bickell's skill set...Needs to be resigned.
Although I said same about Brouwer and he was sent packing, I think this time will be different.

Today's article...

Ugh, don't try to pretend that Mike Richards was embellishing that hit just because he will likely play tonight. Just because he was a little banged up at the time doesn't mean that he's seriously injured, he didn't lay on the ice trying to draw a call or anything. He yelled at the ref because he knew it was a charge (and it was) that went uncalled and went to the bench because his shift was over.

If he flopped around the ice, or the Kings made a big fuss about how he was pretty much dead (Like Doan did after the Kings/Coyotes WCF last year), then by all means. However Richards took the hit, yelled at the ref, and went to the bench in a little pain. If that was earlier in the game he probably would return, but given the game was essentially over, even more so since the refs missed that call and then put the Hawks on the man advantage with less than 2 minutes remaining, so there wasn't any need. Other lines were taking their shifts, and if there was a SH goal and the game went to OT he probably would have been there for the faceoff to the start of the period.

Comments like that just take away credibility.

- bluecoconuts

Can you show us the comment/s indicating Richards embellished?

I saw mention that if Richards is out it will be a factor. He is a tough player and most expect him back unless he is showing concussion symptoms. His head did impact the boards after all.

If Kane had been the recipient most here would be calling it what it was - borderline but clean. Any lift came after contact in order to avoid the net. Contact was back to front not shoulder to head etc....

Some of you Kings posters complain a lot about last year's playoffs. Yes, Doan is a cheap shot and a diving beeatch. You won. Get over it.

Why would Hossa retire? He had 70 points last year, a really solid year this year, gets to play with Toews on a winning team, sounds good to me

Thanks for the evidence. At best it was after contact was initiated and the lift was clearly to avoid the net.

Shanahan will not even look at it. Not a single King called it dirty (to my knowledge) or went after Bolland - even after the penalty on Carter was called.

Therefore lighten up, Francis.

I have no word on Mike Richards' status tonight. I will say if Richards was legitimately dinged by the third period hit from Dave Bolland—and not embellishing—then the injury could be a factor tonight and the rest of the series.

Not sure how you can even come close to inferring that's embellishment. To even imply by saying "IF" IS RECKLESS...

my only question regarding the back to back games is why isn't the eastern conf. doing back to back, they were off much longer than the west, it would seem that the teams that had more rest could accommodate the back to back games. no use whining over spilt milk. I was somewhat shocked that game 2 of the western conf. wasn't scheduled for 9 am Sunday.

Nobody on this blog will change your mind on the hit because your mind is made up however
Stop the picture just before impact ...during impact and both feet are on the ice .....just after impact one skate on the ice

Stop complaining and move on ....or go back to your LA blog
Richards did not imbellish but he did a lt of yapping to the ref
I hate when guys whine after a good hit

JJ, someone posted Tallon says the number 2 pick is available. Ek is saying there are major offers coming to get into the top 5 including "2 top 6 forwards".

Any chance the rumored deal for TT for the number 2 is still on the table?

Do you think this FO has the ability to make a bold move like that?

TIA

The hit is iffy. While his feet may have not left the ice prior to impact he did drive upwards into the hit. Had Richards hit Toews or Kane or another Hawk with that hit many of us would be screaming blue murder. Bolland may or may not have got away with one, just as some LA players will get away with one later. At the end of the day it all pretty much evens out making it moot point.

Can't stand the reffing as we all have stated. Both of Penners penalties were a joke. Your guy was hammering on Richards while he was down, protecting his goalie...I get it! But Penner was protecting his teammate. Call nothing or coincidental minors..just stupid!
- arh777

In cases where guys are taking repeated whacks at a goaltender covering a loose puck, I think you'll find most refs allow the defense some leniency in terms of meting out a little justice. Penner's grab from behind and take-down of Handzus was pointless, and he got what he deserved.

Ok. I suppose the injury may not be serious but he genuinely felt it last night so perhaps it is not necessarily an either/or. However, it seems to have been posed as a plausible option - which it is.

Are you saying Kings never embellish? Not saying they are the Nucks but in the last 2 mins players have been known to do what they can to draw a penalty.

Yours was still an over reaction.

again I ask if Brown did the same hit to Kane would you have the same conclusion?? I think not. Just want you to be intellectually honest.

It's just another case of the front office sitting on their hands and it eventually costs us more money or another player. Throwing a little more money at Bickell over what was offered would have likely seen him sign then and not have us in this situation.

I would hate to see Hossa leave now. This season and playoffs are showing that when healthy he has a ton to offer this team. Losing Hossa now would be far more harmful to the Hawks than any savings they'd achieve with his buyout.

What goes around comes around however. I don't feel sorry at all for Richards. If he wants to deliver his payback all the pwer to him. While he chases Bolland around trying to do that his head won't be in the game and that benefits the Hawks.

The call on Penner was a buildup call. He had taken some whacks at a few people during that shift or the previous. Ref blew the whistle and told everyone to stand down and he continued.

In itself the call was weak but Penner was out of control and they were watching him all night.

Went back and looked at it, big hit for sure. Toews got up and seemed fine, a little slow once he turned back to the bench, but that could have been just fatigue. Hard to say. The tape cut away right at the end of the game, can't see him coming out for the goalie or stick raise (or not).

Anyone at the game recall seeing him or how he looked? Any postgame interviews?

- John Jaeckel

kind of the same way he looks after he misses a scoring chance but didn't notice anything else and didn't hear anything.....

Devils advocate time. What if Bickell signed, got cozy and never found beast mode this playoff. I would take a cup and a loss of Stalberg if it means Bickell plays this way in the playoffs versus the alternative.
