No it doesn't, CapGeek shows just under $2.1 mil available next season and these players are not even figured in because they are RFA's or UFA's (and all of the callups with the team now are listed in the minors for next year and not counting towards the cap):

G: Emery, Hutton, Karlson

F: Bickel, Mayers, Handzus, Stalberg, Kruger, LeBlanc

D: Leddy, Stanton, Lalonde

Buying out Montador frees up $2.75 mil. with 1 of the Amnesty clauses (have to save the other Amnesty clause for Hossa in 1 year, unfortunately)

Olesz becomes a tricky situation because I'm not sure if CapGeek has him figured in for next year, he's listed under the "buried" column but don't know if he's not buried for next year since you can't bury salaries, they should have him factored in, otherwise his $3.125 salary would kill us. Burying him only saves $900k and still counts as $2.225 mil under the new rules (can't fully bury contracts anymore under the new CBA).

Buying out Olesz using the normal buyout counts at $291k in 2013-14 and $1.4 mil in 2014-15. If he is figured into the 2013-14 cap by CapGeek, that saves another $2.8 mil.

Between Olesz and Montador that frees up $5.5 mil of cap room, plus the $2.1 we have already. That's $7.6 mil of room, not a lot but resigning Leddy, Bickell, a backup goalie, a couple of forwards, and a defenseman starts to look slightly more doable.

Obviously there are going to be more changes because $7.6 mil isn't enough room on it's own, especially if Bickell is being resigned in the $3 mil + range JJ is speculating, which means, again, Bowman has mismanaged contracts and screwed us over. He could have resigned Bickell and perhaps Stalberg at far more reasonable rates. Now Stals is certainly a goner.

I also think it means we're going to see a couple more kids on the team next year at entry level contracts, no way around it.

That's not even factoring in that Bolland is likely gone, along with his $3.375 cap hit, who knows what comes back for him.

Another point to remember is that after next year, there are other significant signings:

RFA: Frolik, Morin, Hayes, Shaw, Smith

UFA: Bolland, Carcillo, Bollig, Hjalmarsson, Brookbank, Crawford

Of course the CAP may go up, but that is difficult to count on, and it goes up for all teams - meaning that the $ that teams may be willing to be pay for UFA's could be painful.

My point is that this is leaving Chicago as a vulnerable target to some offer sheets - especially to their RFA's.

No matter what happens, it is likely that changes are going to happen - and assuming that Bickell gets re-signed at that price point ($3-$3.5 million) may be wishful thinking. He's worth it - but it;s like everyone, love the Ferrari just isn't going to happen....

We can also look to Bollig and Smith having one way deals as to who will be up here. It will not be as drastic because Stalberg is no Ladd Buff or even Versteeg. They will 100% count on improvements from the younger guys. The difference from last years 6 seed to this years 1was not made in free agency.

Assuming Bolland and Stalberg are gone, I could easily see the fall opening with something like:

Saad/Toews/Hossa
Bickell/Sharp/Kane
Shaw/Kruger/Frolik
Bollig/Smith/Carcillo

With a possibility of a surprise like Danault/McNeil/LeBlanc.

I think one of the young centers you named could get a chance. With Bollig or Carcillo in the press box.

This is a big game. Need to come out working. LA is going to be very tough to beat at home so you don't want to behind 3-1 coming back to the UC. If they play with same intensity and emotion they should win. Having said that, I see LA winning 5-1 there it is

At some point, with all of the UFA/RFAs coming due, and a team built for what the cap WOULD be under the CBA, at some point in the not too distant future, they may have to (try to) blow it up and start over - if some of their long-term contracts are attached to players not to old to move.

For those who care, Capgeek changed the Recapture Formula again. If Hossa retires, worse case scenario is $4.275 mil.

Because he's not Bowman/McD - not that that's a bad thing by itself, but it's not enough.

Is TT really that good that DT would trade the 2 to get a Euro over some of the N/A studs available, when drafting top North Americans seemed to be Tallon's calling card.

- philco28

That was the rumor JJ posted - Tallon wants TT. Only reason we post about it. Wouldn't think there would be a chance otherwise.

May be a shrewd move by Tallon - he wants to take the next step and the cap shrink will cause a few teams to look to move salary.

Sounds more and more like TT plus Bolland and the H 1st will not be enough.

You are forgetting a big point...Bowman didn't pay Handzus $2.5 mill and would never do so...

Moving Oduya can save cap space, maybe Bolland...the others not really.

...There will be some young players brought up and a trade or two which will offset Leddy and maybe Bickell.

On the Blackhawks with @AlCimaglia: @NHLBlackhawks down Kings 2-1 with best effort of the playoffs http://bit.ly/1495zhO

A few have said it and I think - from a cap standpoint - it would make sense to consider moving Seabrook or even Sharp.

Remember, they need room to sign Hammer next year before he goes UFA. Some GM will probably try to overpay for Leddy to put SB into a similar bind he had in 10. Leddy now vs Hammer later.

If they make the move to free up significant space this OS they will not be in a position of weakness later.

Don't say that here people think DT was a genius..... lol
He did rip a few off in trades though. Sharp and Versteeg were a complete fleecing.

- droe411

Who? I think he recognized the need for grinders well and some of those trades were great. He hasn't done horribly in Florida but I would take SB and Maciver's drafts over his.

Mo, a lot of us grew up listening to DT do the color commentary and speaking for myself...i like the guy. He's a man's man and was a fixture with the org for many, many years. He's family and many have a deeper connection with him.

Plus, i'm sure some fans feel Tallon was ousted in a sinister coup d'etat with the botched contract paperwork fiasco being used as the perfect excuse to install Scotty's kid...who i thought was in charge of all that shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhit.

- philco28

Good points. A lot of this has to do with the dishonesty surrounding his removal. Tallon is a very good guy. Caddied for him a few times in HS.
