I dunno what he'd fetch in terms of picks and prospects, which is a counter-intuitive thing for the Oilers to do.

I feel like he could be traded for a bigger or more two-way centre who is less good offensively.

Great minds think alike.

The Oilers trade Klefbom in a package when the Blues start offering Pietrangelo or the Blackhawks shop Seabrook.

Seabrook maybe , AP not happening

A guy like Hanzal, except a) we'd probably have to add to get Hanzal because b) he's a perfect fit in Phoenix's system and Gagner isn't. So like a 30 year old Hanzal that is done developing. I dunno, when a specific player comes along, I'll let you know.

I really want to understand how he's viewed. is he seen as a 65 point guy? the 49 point player he was in his best season?

Obviously this year he was on a good pace but we all know players regularly have strong starts then tail off. As of right now, he's never broken 20 goals or 50 points. If you want a less offensive but bigger 2-way guy, you're looking at a 3rd line C in return.

Don't be dense. I said Klefbom in a package. The context was packaging Klefbom up to move up in the draft, and I replied that the PACKAGE he'd be a part of would have to be for an established Dman, not prospect winger.

I think you're probably right on in your assessment of the cost, although I think Eberle + Klef + 7th might do it.

I would pull the trigger on that trade.

Not an ideal guy in terms of physicality. And we've done that whole 5 year 5.5 million dollar contract thing already.

He can be a useful player if he is on a stronger team, not a weaker one like ours. On a weaker team, his weaknesses are severely exposed (like any other player's weaknesses would be). They would be:
- not a great skater
- average to low average defensive acumen
- lack of ideal NHL size

Now if he goes to a team like Boston or Philly with some big wingers, then you all of a sudden notice his good aspects:
- great passer
- great vision
- strong work ethic
- lots of heart and intangibles

I always liked Vermette, I have no idea what he's doing these days though.

At a glance: sure. That's the kind of trade I'm talking about.

When Gagner puts together another solid season, then i'll be a hell of a lot more sold on his talents than I am right now.

He's been in the league 5yrs, it was his first real solid season but is it just a one year great season or does he have the skill & desire to do it consistently?? That's the biggest question.

But to say he's worth a lot right after one solid season, GM's aren't going to jump & overpay to acquire him just yet, the jury is still out on Gagner & I think most knowledgable Oiler fans realize that.

Just like Gagner is a burgeoning 2nd line centre with 50-60 point potential, we'd want a solid defensive centre with a bit of room to grow offensively, or a guy who's established that despite offensive short-comings he can handle 2nd line duties.

He seems kinda like Lars Eller. We keep being told he has the potential and should be this or that but year after year he is the same.

What about my Sabres in the hunt? Iropose Sabres #8 and Thomas Vanek to TB Lightening for their #3. tB can then select a very god defensive prospect, Like Darnell Nurse to help with their porous D
- IonSabres

The Bulffalo Sablers need centers, not more wingers.

Could make the team better in the long run. I'm not saying that's the player i'd get, I'm saying that's an example of a player that I think is fair value for Gagner. The only reason in my mind that Horcoff has less value than Gagner is a) age and b) the albatross contract.

I'm not certain that 30-35 point Horcoff making 2 million a year as he should is that much below Gagner in value. Look at what Gaustad fetched.
