I knew I read the whole "man among boys" thing from another article.
http://thefarmclub.net/20...review-valeri-nichushkin/
"At 6-4, and right around 200 pounds, Russian forward Valeri Nichuskin was a man among boys at the 2013 World Junior Hockey Championship."

How come? If we move up without giving nhl ready talent up, won't hurt us. I say move up but for barkov. - ystoil
Well I think we should be moving down or moving the pick out and picking up NHL talent.
Barkov, Nish, I'm sure these are great players but I want what they'll be in 3-4 years. I think the clock is beginning to tick on Edmonton. |

If he's available at 5, I'd be happy to take him. But if Tampa takes him either Drouin or Barkov falls to 5? Oh happy days. - BINGO!

All these rumors about teams wanting to move up is just that - rumors.
It's one thing to talk about it, it's another to have the balls to put together an offer good enough to pull it off.
Listen, it's going to take an overpayment, simple as that & so many people blogging don't seem to understand that if you're going to want in the top 5, it's going to take a top 6 forward, a top prospect plus at least a first round pick in this draft.
Who is prepared to give that up??
Would the Oilers move Gagner, Klefbom plus their 7th overall to move into the top 3 or 4 - I doubt it but that's what it's going to take - an overpayment & the GM's sitting in the top 5 spots, know it.
Would the Flyers move B.Schenn, Scott Laughton & two first rounders - again i'm using this as an example but the price tag is going to be high, especially if there's a GM out there than absolutely wants a player & will stop at nothing to acquire that asset.
Dangerous mindset, hell look what the Nords received for Lindros & look how that deal set up the Nords/Avs for the next several years.
Until I see it, I don't believe the top 4 teams are moving their picks, maybe Carolina at 5 but again, just what are you prepared to give in order to get?? |

I bet Gagner+Paajarvi+7th for 4th overall gets it done (Kelfbom is simply too much)..but I'm not sure if that's a good deal for Edmonton, might be worth the risk though.

I agree, the Oilers should be packaging that pick for NHL talent, they don't need another 18yr old right now.
We can talk about this every year, hell when Connor McDavid is draft eligible, we'll be talking about it then, oh we need to move up to grab this kid - blah, blah, blah.
The Oilers have skill, they need grit & size on the wings in the top 6 and a complete makeover in the bottom 6.
They need to add an impact d-man & i'm still not sold on Dubynk as a bonafide #1. |

If that's the case, then...
More seriously, I hope the Flyers don't give anything even remotely "Lindrosian" to get this kid. That said, part of the fun of being a Flyers fan is watching them wheel and deal and make moves you never saw coming, and this year is shaping up to be an interesting one. - wolfhounds
Your minor league farm system lacks talent. Sorry, Laughton or Cousins doesn't get this done. You will have to give up someone like Brayden Schenn to move up. He is hardly "Lindrosian". |

It might get it done but you hit the nail on the head when you said Klefbom is simply too much - but that's what I was saying, it may take that type of an offer for a GM in the top 4 to move the pick. You may think it's too much but if a team loves a player that they figure will be gone after the 4th pick, don't rule it out that a major overpayment will happen. |

Dubey just had a .921. 13th among starters. Better than names like Luongo, Price, Fleury, Hiller, Lehtonen, Miller, Backstrom, Ward, Pavelec, and Varlamov. Looks like over half the league needs a bonafide 1 then |

you're not helping the "everyone is untouchable on the oilers" mockery... - muffin_man
would you trade Bailey,a better younger Nielsen, and a 7th overall pick for a 4th overall pick for an unproven prospect that for all we know could sh1t the bed in NA and return to the KHL? |

Just how bad did the SJ Sharks get screwed by the way the league was set up for expansion teams? They should have had the 1st overall pick (Lindros) instead settled for Pat Falloon (#2 pick) or Fat Balloon. They passed on the best player in that draft, Scott Niedermayer (#3 pick). Sharks get jobbed and job themselves in one fell swoop.

I might actually trade him for that, also. It might not be that smart, but we need a top line LWer, and Nich is poised to become that. He even said in an interview that he expects to play in the NHL, and on his team's top line next year. |

James Reimer - .924
- Tee-Dot
amazing how little credit Dubey gets. Reimer has a good season, all doubts are gone around the league. Dubey has a good season, he's a backup goalie at best somehow. |
