Any team wanting too move up, will have to be a BIG move...in players & picks going the other way.....

Nope
To get one of the top picks you are going to have to over pay far greater then you should or the teams will just keep the pick

- Redmile247

This is an overpayment for a draft pick. Edler a player that they are using on their top line in some games and their first pick is big for any team to pass up. I don't like Edler but I am in the minority. He is one of the top offensive dmen in the league by most people's opinion. They have him locked long term. Then a young prospect that played with the sedins last year and can play with stamkos and st.louis this year. That is big. I think Nashville would have to be the target due to cap numbers but any GM would consider this.

As a Preds fan, I'm ecstatic that this could be our pick. Even if he moves up to 3rd, then we get Drouin (hard to be sad about that). I think with the acquisition of Forsberg, and a solid draft this year, we could make the playoffs again. Had it not been for injuries, we could've made a solid run for 8th. I just hope Polie doesn't do anything stupid like trade it away for a Sub-par player. Seeing a 1st rounder go for Gaustad was painful...and that Franson trade...
- jibstream

I don't know. There is the possibility that Seth falls to 4. It is not a stretch. Mackinnon and Drouin were amazing this year and we just read about Nich. Colorado could use a winger. They could take Nich or Drouin or Mac and trad ROR. Then Florida needs forward slightly more than d. Preferably a Center with the loss of weiss so Mac isn't going past them. Lighting need a forward period. St. louis is getting on in years and vinny will likely be bought out. Nash might be looking at a d prospect. He is rated high but the forwards are amazing as well. I don't think the gap between them is as big as people make it out to be. Plus forwards of that calibre are a safer bet traditionally.

Col probably takes him first but if they don't, I think Nashville is getting him.

Why not Mo?

Feel like I'd rather use the pick, and save the assets for an established acquisition. Although through reading a bit I've warmed up on the idea. I just don't want anyone to get the idea that even a 18 year old man-child like Nich is the "missing piece"

I hope you're wrong. Oil should definitely not trade up.
- Morris

Yeah, I agree. Why do you think they shouldn't trade up? Oil are looking to add talent to their top 6. They are one spot out. We know their ability to draft in the late first and second round is below average. Better to have one good pick than 3 maybe's.

We have prospects to move on defense. Picks to part with. Nick, Hemsky and maybe others can be parted with for some value. We move to 5th and then to third. Makes the the trades easier. I don't think Hemsky will be part of either trade but I think their are teams that will give us some level of pick for him that we can use in these movements. Parting with Nick would be a plus as well since we have him playing 5/6 minutes at 3.2 mil. However he is a 3/4 guy on most teams.

Like I said above, I'd rather they make a splash for an established player.

I don't hate the idea as much as I stated I guess, but I don't think it's prudent.

Yeah, I think it would be great a few years down the road but I think we need experience to cobble together some wins, and we need wins to get the ball rolling so to speak and improve team psyche.

Whether we like it or not Tampa isn't trading the pick unless it's a lot better then that ... They don't have to trade the pick

I agree but it doesn't look like we are freeing up roster room to do that. Looks like more NHL rookies on the blue line. The attempt at a rookie backup. We are still keeping Smyth, Brown who are not amazing in anyway. We need a 1-2 dman. We need to add some grit to our back six in the way of UFA's suck as Antorpov, Bickel, Cleary... There are more that fit our needs if these price their way out of our budget but big two way players that can add points and size. However we do need a top 6 player. I don't think Paajarvi is there and he might not be there for a couple years still.

I agree tossing rookies out there to fill holes is stupid but I don't know how else we are going to get an affordable top 6 player unless we overpay for Horton. We just don't have the assets to pay for someone established unless they are over paid. Vinny is a possibility as he from around this area but he is a temporary solution.

I hope the Sharks can get a pick in the top 20. I'd like to see us re-stock the cupboard after years of ignoring it. The window is officially closed. We are clearly at best, the 3rd best team in the West, with LA and Chicago being younger, more physical and faster.

I'm hoping the Leafs Draft Sam Morin. .... but will settle for Fred Gauthier if he's gone by 21.

I think throwing the Canucks into a list of teams wishing to move up is like players wishing to have oxygen.

Wherever he goes i'm sure he is going to demand that the hottest free agent this year Lindy Ruff be his coach. Right Eklund!

those highlights look nice, and he looks like he has the potential to be a pretty damn good power forward, but they also seem to indicate that he's not used to getting banged up by guys his size (avera NHL D) or bigger, he seems pretty unchallenged out there to be honest and there's also the fact that he's got so much more room on International ice, i think he'll be good, but i'd love to have seen him play maybe one season of say OHL or WHL hockey (alot less space, bigger and less nonchallent looking D)

Flames could be in a good position, with 3 first rounders and a couple of guys that could be moved, to get this kid and build around him.

Would be a dirty looking line wouldn't it? Baertschi - Backlund - Nichushkin. Two highly skilled, smaller players with finishing capabilities and excellent passing skills (especially Baertschi), add in a big winger who can skate, shoot and play physical and you've got a deadly combo. Maybe bring in another russian player (even a veteran one) to make Nichushkin's transition a little easier and there you go. lets hope feaster pulls off some magic this off season.
