The Sabres are probably at least 3 seasons away from the playoffs. Unless they can move up by trading veterans who either won't be here (Vanek, Miller) or won't be as effective (possibly Ehrhoff) in 3 years - they should stay where they are and take the 2 best players available in their spots.

The Sabres will probably be the worst team in the EC next year if they do the right thing and trade away vets Miller, Stafford, Vanek. That will guarantee a shot at the #1 overall pick next year and at the very least a top 5 pick in the 2014 draft.

I like the way you think and I have been saying that they should do trades like this for the past month now. Who says we can't get the first and second overall picks in the draft (a.k.a. Vancouver's Sedin Twins) Get MacKinnon and Drouin or get MacKinnon and jones. Either way you get 2 cornerstones for your franchise.

BUT the sabres don't think that way. They are not creative at all and as much as i wanna see them move up to the top 3. They will unfortunately stay at 8,16,and keep both seconds to "add depth"

Big Dream deal... Buffalo trades Miller, Grigorenko and #8 pick to Colorado for #1 pick and Stastny. Roy could use Grigorenko on either 2nd or 3rd line, obtains his top-notch goalie and then can draft his young D-man (Nurse or Ristolainen) with #8 pick. Stastny has not played up to expectations the past 2 years and is in his contract year ($6.6 million) and Sabres get their franchise cornerstone with either MacKinnon (my preference) or Seth Jones.

If Big Dream Deal were to actually happen... then Sabres could package Vanek with a draft pick (reluctantly #16 most likely) to either trade up for Drouin (to pair with MacKinnon) or Nichushkin or Barkov (pair him with Armia).

2. Edmonton would be stupid to trade the 7th overall for a guy that will only be the there for 1 season.

3. Edmonton wants a Big 2 Way Center.

4. Miller won't get you a 2013 1st as the values of this years 1st rounders are through the roof but will get you a 2014 1st.

I would be suprised if EDM ends up drafting in their current slot. They could move down and take a 2way center since Monahan will be gone. Say Wenneberg. IMO they are gonna try to get quite a few roster players this offseason to try to make the playoffs, trading their pick is a start

IMO they would be stupid to trade up. They should be filling out that roster as of now from the bottom up. They could add a top 6-9 guy or top 4 d by trading down and still getting a good player

It's gonna cost so much to trade up that hight though (I could see him go as high as 3rd)
We'd prob be better off trying to trade for him after a year or two & some of the draft hype wears off

If we stay at 8, I'd want either Lindholm or Ristolainen

3 of those 5 will be available for us to choose from

Nurse has the biggest "bust" potential of that group IMO, but they'll prob all be at least solid NHLers

I think with their new GM theyre going to make a move and trade away one of their top guys (RNH, Yakupov, Eberle, Hall) at the draft and or their first rounder to get better now.
