Jan Hejda was actually traded for not signed via UFA in 2006.

2006-Jul-10 Jan Hejda traded from Buffalo Sabres to Edmonton Oilers for round 7 pick in the 2007 draft

I wouldn't be surprised if another signing announcement is made this afternoon that the oilers signed Raanta. It's just us and another team negotiating with him now. And according to twitter he's made his decision.

Horcoff and Hemsky will not be here next year... and its too bad but they have no place on this team- and no I dont (frank)ing know who will replace them but its doubtful we will continue to pay nearly 11 mill for non contributing bandaides who play roughly 33% of each season for the last 3 or so seasons... and there are plenty of plugs that can be more effective on the draw, have equal or better stone hands and can lay the body consistently... Smyth should do the honourable thing and give up but greed is a wonderful drug! Belanger all but confirmed he wont be back some time ago... Whits wont sign here when its obvious he cant cut it...

On a side note I do like the fact that MacT is actively pursuing a replacement for Kreuger... for when he again fails to match lines on the ice and mismanages personnel in ice time... Its about time there was some pro activity in this organization

- saskoil21

Agree 100% with the first paragraph.

I guess the associate coach could really be a replacement... I'd like to give Krueger some more time though. Some of his speeches on motivation annoys the sh1t out of me, but to be fair, he hasn't had much of a chance yet.

Horcoffs place is on 3rd line center.... Until we find/sign someone who can take his spot that doesnt leave us as an even worse team

We stopped relying on Cloot's purported "facts" years ago.

Think of Cloutier as the barfly spinning tales and conspiracy theories at your local drinking establishment...entertaining but not reliable.

This. Despite what he does or doesn't do on the ice, he is a good leader, and simply cutting him loose makes the Oilers suck more.

I've heard from one source (not sure how reliable it is) that Minnesota may be out of the loop on this one as of now. Which I guess does make sense since they already have depth in net. And yeah I also saw that Winnipeg is in it as well. So this will be a tough one.

Hemsky and horcoff are not in the same position in relation to our team. Yaks and ebs have mostly made hemmer redundant as hes not really a viable 3rd liner in terms of what it looks like the oilers want to do. the same cant be said for horcoff. none of lander, belanger , prospect have done the same to horcs.

Simply buying him out doesnt solve any problems until we have a replacement. Why do people fail to realize such a simple concept?

He may be able to lead off ice meetings but I highly doubt there are many that take his on ice advice...further he is complacent, oft injured and is likely tied for worst stone hands in the league- right up there with Belanger and Cogliano...

Ignore how much Horcoff gets paid and really assess his play as a 3rd line center. You'll find he is one of the better in the league. All you have to do is look at the Oilers record over the past 5 years with Horcoff in the lineup and without him.

Well, if he's as good as everyone says he is then I guess it would make sense to go after him. I wouldn't mind seeing him here.

As far as signing a UFA goalie from Europe, I've heard that there's interest in two of them. One is Bernard Starkbaum (look him up) and the other one I don't remember the name. However, if this is done, I doubt he'll see much time in net due to the fact that the SEL is pretty different than the NHL, obviously.

didn't seem to hurt Fasth with the Ducks this year. He stole the job from Hiller!

A better one? Or one that's not gonna want an overpayment?
Prob not as easy as we might think.
Horcs is a solid 3rd liner. Hes just way overpaid

I think a Horcoffless Oiler team in 2013 is wishful thinking on your part.
