I read that Belov is only 6'3 185 Clouts.
- Ihatebrianburke

IIHF says 6'4 212 so I'd say it's fair to say in the 6'3 200 area

Could mean any number of things. One thing it does mean is that if they're picking a defenseman 7th, they're probably not planning on bringing him up next year which is something we ought all applaud.

If Belov puts up 25-30 points this year and isn't a complete tard in the defensive zone, then it's a great signing. Maybe 30 points is a bit too high to expect.

I wouldn't call Smid that tough, he isn't a great hitter by form although he hits. He does have a mean streak but I don't think many players are that afraid of him. Could be wrong though. In comparison to the rest of our blue line, he is tough. I like Smid, but I'd prefer to have him on our bottom pairing long term.

Fedor Tyutin would be a good pickup.

- ystoil

Smid is a mean customer. Him and Petry lay out some pretty devastating hits. They play the toughest competition, and while they may not be fit for it seeing as Petry and Smid are like a 3 and 4 respectively, they haven't done terribly.

and yes. I'm in love with Petry.

30 points isn't unreasonable for Belov. Petry put up 25 last year and isn't exactly a PP option like Belov may be

I think it means EDM doesn't think Klefbom's ready.

It might mean that they've seen something special in Belov and think he could evolve in to a top 4 guy. MacT said they need D men that are fast puck movers to compliment EDM's style so it wouldn't be a total surprise if Smid(hope not), Fistric, Peckham, Teubert(ECHL4LIFE) are all gone soon.

Regardless of this signing we still need at least one more NHL ready defenseman. I would be in favour of signing Ference or Streit. But no 3 year 5.5 like Streit wants.

I'm going to disagree with Willis's article when it comes to Oscar Klefbom. He says it will be harder for him to crack the line-up next season with this signing. I say it won't. Who likely gets the shaft in this situation is Taylor Fedun, who's been impressive as all get out in the AHL this spring. Klefbom is as important to the Oilers future as Justin Schultz is. I think he'll be paired with Schultz and be playing top pairing minutes by the end of the season. I don't care how young he is. He's that good

these comments annoy the fuk outta me. he knows its conjecture, he knows nothing about belov, he has no idea how klefbom will come off injury, nor how good he'll truly be. he probably hasnt seen him play more than 3 or 4 games.
he must also know that throwing kids to the wolves can be terrible for their development.

yet he posts stupid remarks like this trying to get hits from the rational thinkers and the haters alike.

Wouldn't mind signing MacArthur for third line duties. Him, Boyd Gordon and lapierre improves our bottom six nicely.

Agree. The klefbom skit has to go... I was stoked when we drafted him, but clouts has so over hyped him that now I'm just waiting for him to fail.

Really I hope he is as good as advertised... But seriously... Richard... Take a cold shower

Interesting to say the least. We'll see how he does. I don't think fistric would be a bad number six guy to pound guys through the boards we still need some one like that. We'll see. An interesting move by MacT one that has some upside but no risk. We'll see if he gets to the risk part later.

I'd take all 3. Even Lapierre if he cuts down on the douchebaggery.

If we got a Tyutin or Staal type would it be better to play them with Petry to give Smid-JSchulz easier minutes? Also thank you for not penciling J. Schultz into the top pairing where he really shouldn't be until he can play better defense.

I'm not sure how Lapierre is with his teammates but if he's a good team guy then oilers definitely need to go after him, and others like him..Oilers need a Jackass or two that everybody on other teams hate..look at the Red Wings, year after year theyre in the mix, even.now that they are goin through a mini rebuild theyre still there..one of the best puck posession teams in the league, loaded with skill but they always have a few greasy players that get in the heads of the opposition (draper, maltby, mccarthy, tootoo, j.abdelkader, dan cleary, etc)..Oilers have Jones, but he's more a clown than a pest and seems to be more concernes about "the flow" than anything else. Another thing detroit and other good teams have is a big hitter on the back end like Niklas Kronwall, LA has Regehr, Pitts now has Doug Murray..Oilers have Smid..a former skill defenceman who wasnt skilled enough to make it on skill alone in the NHL so he tried becoming a tough guy..but he cant fight, pushes players but doesnt really hit to hurt..moves the puck ok, blocks a ton of shots..but I wouldnt resign him for anythin more than 2.5 million per season..Oilers need someone who makes a bigger impact on the game at his spot in the Lineup..I would say the same thing about Nick Schultz but he seems to be loved by teammates..
Oilers need Matt Greene, J.Stoll, D.Penner, J.Hejda, J.Chimera, Cogliano, R.Torres and C.Glencross back..because those are the exact types of players theyre looking for right now..problem is as soon as they produce points under their dollar values everyone freaks out..Stoll and Penner put up terrible offseason I mean regular season point totals yet are one of the key pieces to their teams in the playoffs. You can add Dan Cleary to that list as well...Colin McDonald..oh my
Lowe and MacT have always had a great ability to find these types but for whatever reason have never had the patience to hang on to them...maybe they expect every physical player to turn into the next Lucic or Chris Pronger I dunno.

6 4 210 even if he's 6 3 there is no way he's 185 thats underweight for someone that size he's at lest 200

6'4" 219 according to most recently updated websites. Safe to assume at least 6'3" 210. He also seems pretty aggressive. A butt tonne of PIM's but I couldn't tell you if they're fighting majors or just dumb penalties.

This is a good, solid, depth pickup by the Oilers. He could be a 2/3/4/5 guy. Great numbers in the KHL, has good size. I'd say the MacT era is off to a good start.

At least he's not 5'10" 185lb with good speed, soft hands and will average 100 points per season... */troll*

But for cereals, this was a stellar pickup for MacT.

In reality; smid is a better puck mover then you think, and far softer then you realize.

Your constant statement to the opposite is what gives you the lack of hockey knowledge tag line. seriously you aren't even getting better.

On a positive note, I'd think ur fairly qualified for that job, but ur writing here will open and slam the same door you would get into. sorry man

Cloutier & his hard-on for Klefbom - the guy hasn't played a single game in the NHL yet apparently he's a star already - that is in Cloutier's mind.

Give it a rest already Richard, it's getting old like you.
