I think wed get backstrom and not ovechkin. sorry guys
- Beezer33

I would think that given Ovechkin's massive deal that they'd be more inclined to hold onto Backstrom than Ovechkin. At the end of the day, if Vanek is traded to Washington, I would think neither of those players are coming in exchange.

Hope not. He doesn't seem to want to be here. Better to trade him now.

I don't know if I think Washington is a good trading partner at all. I'd definitely take either for him, but I highly doubt Washington is willing to give up either for Vanek.

Ok, if you want a player who doesn't want to be on your team for 5 months before you trade him for less value because his contract is up in a couple months we could do that.

He never said that he didn't want to be here. He said that he didn't know how he would fit iinto a long term rebuild. He hadn't talked to DR when he said that too. He is firmly planted in Clarence and that crap about a going away party is total BS

It has also been reported he is tepid on signing an extension

Why on earth would Washington trade AO for a guy that is slightly older and less productive?

Same reason we traded Pominville. You can't take the C from him, but he isn't the right guy to be their captain. Plus they would save a couple million. I doubt that is the deal, but there are some logical reasons the Caps might entertain it.

How many Art Ross/Hart/Rocket Richard/Pearson trophies has Pominville won?

Even with his "decline" in play, AO is still a top-10 (if not top-5) player in the NHL. Saying you'll trade all of that talent for older, lesser talent in order to remove a letter from his chest and save some money is incomprehensible.

Now, if they flat-out decide that his talent isn't enough to get them to the Cup, then sure they'd consider trading him. However, I think they'd want to go with younger players/picks/prospects, not a guy like Vanek (no offense to Vanek).

Tepid? Yes. Because he was unsure of DRs short and long term plans on rebuilding the team. Sheesh, I love how people take one comment out of context and spin it into Vanek not wanting to be here.

He will extend under short and long term beneficial circumstances. You can't hate on a guy for wanting that.

But he (P'velle) was traded at the deadline.... for a premium. You are not getting that kind of deal in teh offseason.

Guys like pominvelle, Vanek....and AO get traded when the market demands more at the trade deadline.

So what's the market for Vanek if he's hurt or only has 14 goals at the deadline? Instead of a good hockey trade over the offseason you're left with trying to get rid of him at a discount. Keeping him on the team to trade him at this years deadline is way to big of a gamble for a team that's rebuilding.

they could just be moving. if the vaneks spend the offseason in minnesota anyways hes not going to pack up and move to VA right now because theres a deal on the table

although it would make no sense to move your kids this close to the end of school year anyways

who knows

- robz228

Definately not made up about his kid and yesterday's school events ... as for any trade that was pure speculation as to the parts involved ... I just found it interesting the kid was yanked out of school a few weeks early and he claimed he was headed to VA. Better info than GARTH has ever had but then again this is a Rumor site ...

What's the market if he has 35 goals at the deadline?
What's the market for Letang if he's injured and is a -13?
What's the market for Ovechkin if he has 13 goals?

You have to hope that Vanek produces at his usual/above usual pace. You should never count on your top players playing poorly or being injured.

It is good info and very intriguing if nothing else, thanks for the nugget. Maybe they are getting divorced....
