There seems to be a fair number of undrafted defenseman coming out of the college ranks. Maybe small numbers still, but some of these guys look like they may become significant players. Hopefully the Flyers can nab a couple of these guys in the near future.

They missed out on the big two a couple months ago. What's left is what's left you know. Free agent junior players are coming due now. We'll see. FA first year players who can make an impact are typically gone by now.

Well if someone errs it's always best to point it out in the most mocking post as you can think of then leave.

@thephillyphans Flyers have signed defenseman Maxim Lamarche to an entry level contract

46 in QMJHL player rankings.

Edit: I'm not clear how the Flyers signed him ahead of the draft... Or rather, why are some players on available via draft, and others are apparently up for grabs?

Was the Bruins kid who scored 4 goals against the Rangers undrafted?
He is small but looks like a heck of a player.
He showed more poise and confidence with the puck then Doogie.

hahahaha......not one of those trades set the franchise back for years.
- KINGKENZO

Maybe not, but I guess it's a coincidence that all 3 players were key contributors on Cup winning teams, while the Flyers received drek in return and are looking at being on the ass end of a 40 year Cup drought.

Krug? Freddy? Hahahaha...

He was an undrafted college free agent. He was signed last March. The good ones go early.

The way I understand it, any player who turns 21 by September 15 and has gone undrafted or unsigned is a UFA.

No,no, I do like him. He played better than I remembered. He was up for some games at the end of last season. He's just so small back there but he's been very effective. I don't know how they can take him out of the lineup once Ferrence is ready. It will be interesting.

Edit: I was laughing because today Seguin said he doesn't know how pronounce his last name, they all assume it's Krug like Freddy Krugger from Nightmare on Elm Street so everyone on the team just calls him Freddy. It made me laugh.

What is that list? McKinnon isn't even on it and they have no NHL affiliation for Petr Straka.

You're basing that on whether they've played in the NHL or not. They don't need those prospects to play now they have a roster full of prospects already playing:

2012 - Frk looks to be a second round find
too early to opine on most of the selections a year ago.
2011 - Sproul and Ouellett look to be very good prospects on D
2010 - Petr Mrazek could eventually be the steal of the later rounds

If they get two picks from every draft playing 100+ games in the NHL that's damn good.

Look at their minor league club and tell me the drafts you're attempting to poke holes in aren't quality prospects. They just don't need them at the NHL level at 20 years old and they haven't had first round picks the last two seasons where they might nab someone to make a quick jump. That's where development comes in.

We'll see...but I just don't see their recent picks as indicative of some order of magnitude better drafting than a lot of other teams...a lot of that rep, I believe, comes from finding players like Zetterberg in the 7th rd and Datsyuk in the 6th, which was over 12/13 years ago.

Yessire... on the face of it he looks like the best prospect in the draft to me by leaps and bounds but my knowledge is limited. He still needs to show up and do it if he can get even close to that jerk to the west of the state.

I know they aren't what they used to be but it's damn impressive when you look at how much homegrown talent makes up their roster.

You're right. Time will tell if they have a Datsyuk in those picks.

He was 21 before he made the show so they have three years worth of picks behind them.

hopefully he can stay healthy. it is ridiculous when you consider how much crosby has lost due to injuries already at this point in his career

And hopefully, out of Alt, Ghostbhere, and the 4 defenseman they selected in the draft last year. As well as any defenseman they might draft in the next draft. One or more will pan out. Then the situation won't look so bad.

You have to hand it to Homer in one regard: He seems intent on finding hockey players at no cost to assets on the current organizational depth chart no matter where they played. Overage junior talent, College talent, overseas talent, etc.

Looking forward to seeing if this guy can play or not.

It says he's paying a fee of $120,000? Is that to his former team?
