Didn't snow give up a ton of futures for a couple of months of Ryan Smyth? What about Zednik? Right, he'd certainly never trade for Lu.
- golfingsince

Did you ever see what those futures amounted to? i.e. Oiler fans aren't very proud of that haul. It was all poop. And then what he did the following years to restock the cupboards? ie. trading down to get multiple picks?

But you are right, having made the playoffs, he is more likely to add a vet now...such as a goalie...such as Luongo. Though, if Vokoun keeps doing what he's doing......

I'm not the one that said the Isles needed DP to reach the cap floor. Maybe you should do a bit of reading before calling others idiots.
- golfingsince

Jesus facking Christ it was in reply to another post to someone saying Wang needed to get DP's salary off the books which HE DOES NOT. That is the truth. We do need his salary to reach the floor in fact I think we need an additional 10 million to get there this year. You have no concept of Wang or how he operates. ONCE AGAIN we traded for Thomas's contract that we did'nt pay for just to reach the floor. We traded for Brian facking Rolston JUST TO REACH the floor. We signed Jay facking Panadalfo JUST TO REACH THE FLOOR. Stop ignoring the meat of that post and twisting it into whatever you want.

OK. When the Luongo debacle ends definitely come on over. Do you think it's coincidence that EVERY poster on hockeybuzz besides just about any Canuck fan thinks your proposal are insane including Dreger and some of you guys are taking Strome into the deal? Coincidence or denial? Do you even realize that you guys make yourselves look like you have zero clue about anything?
- Cptmjl

Not sure where the Strome comment came from but this entire conversation kicked off after a series of Bob Mackenzie tweets yesterday stating that Isles would have interest in Lu. I realize you think we're all crazy for even contemplating that Mackenzie might actually know something more than we in our esteemed HB forums do but maybe you should direct your outrage to him.

again, failure to research. Snow gave up two Milbury drafted prospects that both were marginal (go look up their career stats LOL) and a 1st round pick. Tons.

We gave up a prospect every single facking person on the planet knew was a waste of space in Smyth and Zednik was for a 2nd rd pick. not Nino and Strome or any combination of the two.
- Cptmjl

You gave up your 1st round pick, and your guy drafted at 15th overall plus Nillson. Spin it any way you want, that's what you dealt for 2 months of Ryan Smyth

How do Islander fans feel about Bailey's jekyl and hyde act? First halfs he blows, then right at the end of the season he always finishes on fire. Would he be a piece you're willing to move in a Luongo deal?

I dropped the 2nd knowing the nucks save 10M in the deal...

Luongo for Dipietro and Bailey.

Nobody is saying that. Nobody is giving up Nino for Luongo and you're debating if you'd want it. If you get a dman thing for him count your blessings. I like the guy, i think he's good but Nobody least of all Snow is giving up as much as Nino for Luongo. Think what you want but reality will be hitting all of you guys in the face in about a month. I'll stop back then to continue this convo
- Cptmjl

You have been saying this for an hour now. Do I really need to go back and copy and paste all your comments for you again?

The entire discussion started because of a stupid tweet and was based on the Canucks taking on a NPV of almost $30 million dollars for Rick DiPietro's buy out. The money that NYI save, and that they get a player that can actually play for them, has a high cap hit (helping them to the floor) and as his contract expires actually turns to a cash benefit (low salary/high cap hit).

It's not Lu for Nino, its Lu and $30m for Nino.

If you don't like the deal, great, you have already said so, but saying that "Snow will never..." or "Canucks fans are stupid for..." is silly. None of us sit on the board of directors, or are privy to what an owner/GM is actually thinking or willing to do.

Traded to NY Islanders by Edmonton for Ryan O'Marra, Robert Nilsson and NY Islanders' 1st round choice (Alex Plante)

to me thats poop from a poop draft.

I think you're number is wrong, its actually Lu for Dipietro and Nino and 10M in savings.

The Oilers botched the pick. Pacioretty and David Perron were selected after Plante.

This is very true. Like I said earlier, nothing surprises me. I just offer my opinions on deals, rarely do I think its going to happen the way I think it should.

I love how free everyone is with money when discussing these deals. $30m is a lot of money for any owner, let alone for an owner of an org spending at the cap floor.

2 solid picks in a group of 25....at that point it's not a matter of a team botching a pick, its a matter of a team or two teams getting lucky or doing a fantastic job. Perron fell because he was an overager.....and as for Pac......quite a few teams missed out on him. It was a poop draft, pure and simple.

fair assessment, might even be generous to the oilers.

every time Luongo's name is brought up with another team mentioned Canucks fans lose their ever-loving minds dreaming of a return. Then all the fans of the team mentioned point out that it doesn't make sense, and Canucks fans respond with the denial of a jilted lover who still wants to make it work. It's over.

Someone here quoted it from somewhere. I'm just repeating it.
I thought it was a canucks fan who actually included it in the thread from a twitter feed.
