This is what confuses me.
You NEED to have DP on the payroll. DP never plays and when he does he is terrible.
If you had Luongo, you would be paying almost the same amount except that Luongo is a terrific goalie.
So why would you rather keep paying DP when you could spend that money on Luongo? - hankthetank
He's arguing against himself. We aren't trading for Lu because we need Rocky's salary to reach the cap floor. Don't let the fact that Rocky is an AHL backup and Lu is an NHL starter come into the equation. |

So you don't have a link to Mckenzie saying what you suggested?
That's what I thought. Thanks. - hankthetank
Huh? I said show me a link where the Isles say they want Luongo. Not what Mckenzie thinks or knows. Show me where the Isles have said it. Don't bother looking because they haven't |

OK. You guys are not paying attention. DP's salary has zero effect on us. We NEED his contract to reach the floor. WTF do you think happened with Tim Thomas. I like Luongo, I really do. I think he's a great goaltender but you guys are not being realisitic. I csan't believe I'm still doing this? - Cptmjl
YEAH YEAH, I get that reaching the floor is a concern, BUT, paying that amount of money for a player NOT to play isn't good business, its stupid. Snow would be much better served paying a player who can actually contribute to the success of the NHL team.
First, if Rick D is playing in Bridgport or wherever your ALH team is only $3.1m of his $4.0m cap hit counts toward your cap.
Second, Thomas didn't cost you anything. He had an over 35 contract, meaning his cap hit counted but because he failed to report to the team he was suspended and there was no salary to pay. Well, Thomas will be an UFA and you just lost your free $5m cap hit.
I'm not saying Luongo will get traded to the Islanders, I'm saying it's a possibility, and that he would be valued for reasons a, b and c which I already mentioned. I also said that the fit isn't good because the salary is actually higher than the cap hit for the first five years, but whatever.

First I asked you for a link to Mckenzie saying that DP and Nino for Luongo would be a fleecing. You failed to show me a link to this. |

DP will never play again for the Islanders. Even if that means finishing his career in the AHL. They have a couple of goalies in the system with potential granted they are a few years away but the isles will not bring in another stupid contract. Looks they finally learned their lesson with Yashin & DP. Luongo is good but not worth that contract. The days of the Isles going for a quick fix are over. - Vukota
If DP retires, how does the recapture work (against the NYI) in that case? |

There's no recapture, his salary and cap hit are the same. |

Not sure how that works to be honest. I still think he gets a buyout this summer. They didn't even invite him back when they called up some players for the playoffs. |

Hey we can trade Cam Barker for him. Barker was a #4 pick after all. - AlexF
And when Barkers stock was still high enough only 2 years ago, he got Nick Leddy. Are you suggesting Nino's stock has fallen as far as Barkers? Dude, that's still 3 or 4 years away. Nino is fine as a top prospect, maybe not top 5 draft pick worthy (thought that was a reach in the first place), but somewhere between the 10 or 15 slot. He'll be fine. |

Yeah and an extra 1 million dollars and longer contact we have to pay for in Luongo on top of giving up a great prospect in Nino and some you bafoons saying Strome too. Is this something Wang would do? Spend morer money give up two blue chip prospects for 3-4 years of Luongo? I'm arguing with myself? You're all out of your minds. |

I'm just saying for Snow to be able to get what amounts to a NPV of almost $30million off the books for a player that can't even get a start in the AHL is worth giving up a prospect that doesn't seem too happy with the current situation. - 1970vintage
?? He was the starter in Bridgeport, even did pretty well.

and pay a million more and have a contract for a longer term AND more importantly give up 2 blue chip prospects in the process. Yeah, that's good buisness, if you're a Canucks fan |
