think he's ready for a look at the top?

i like carrick's game a lot too.. sometimes i wonder about him is can he keep his scrappyness at bay.. from the few games i saw with him late in the year he looks like a bit of a wild card.. might go off at the wrong time type thing... but thats the type of thing age will teach

and i say late in the year because i dont remember him being with the marlies to start the year... ECHL i think? not certain

- Dozzer

He was in the ECHL until the NHL season started, then he was brought up and worked his way into the lineup, should be a full time Marlie next season.

Everyone thinks these draft picks are 100 point centres, reality is, very few crack 70 to 80 points.

Yes ... But I'd do Gardiner 21st pick and our 2nd rounder in 2014

Since 2000..these have been the first Centers taken in the top 5

Spezza, Staal, Malkin, Crosby, staal, Turris, Stamkos, Tavares, Seguin, Hopkins, Galchenyuk

with the exception of 2007 with the weakest draft ever probably...I might take my chances. and the year J. Staal went #2, Toews went #3

I think Mackinnon is pretty much cant miss in a strong draft

pipe dreams but worth discussing

If my scouts tell me MacKinnon is anything close to a Tavares, Stamkos, Toews type of franchise guy - then I press the go button without hesitation.

Just make sure you don't have "Jump" by Van Halen playing while he's on hold.

Morning, my Leafy friends.

I have a much stricter criteria on what is called a franchise player, 70 to 80 points is elite not a franchise player.

Slightly different for defenseman but I only think there is a couple of those in the league.

I think it's definitely up for consideration if you think Rielly can replace Gardiner.

I have to agree. Maybe Col wants Jones and the deal can be made with #2 or #3 depending on the order they go

I think we see now a 100 point Center is not the end all. a 70-80 point Toews or Tavares is ok

Too much.

I'm not opposed to the idea - I don't think anyone is untouchable.

But Kadri looks to be a real keeper.

Gardiner is a wildcard, but I really like what he was doing in the playoffs.

And then you give up the 21st pick?

That's just a little too much, imho.

As much as I would love to have McKinnon, that would send the wrong message.

To me, it's got to be under $4 million.

I don't care if it is $3,999,999.99

I just think you have to draw a line in the sand.

He's not a #1 centre, period. He never will be.

Leafs need to play hardball with this guy. You want to play for the Leafs or not?

Bottom line: he's never going to get the minutes on another club that he sees here.

He's just not that good.

thats Fair, I would be really on the fence about it. I would like to keep Kadri as a #2 option going forward..But (frank) me if thats behind Bozak for another 5 years.

a few things with Kadri concern me. His production was unsustainable, he probably settles in as a 50-60 point player. His first playoffs were just OK..but I would like to see more of course

The league has been blessed with the Stamkos', OV's, Crosby's and Malkin's walltzing in and destroying the league.
