Kadri has been it really. Not much influence or time with Gardiner. This after all this supposed talent Burke left us with. - honesthockey
Well he can't force a guy to make the jump, that's up to the player. There's also Reimer, Scrivens, Frattin, Hamilton, Fraser, and bringing Orr back from the dead, all under Eakins watch. That's 7 or 8 regulars that have come up through the marlies, and a bunch of fringe contributors like Kostka and Hamilton. What more can anyone really ask for, he's not gonna turn Carter Ashton into Ovechkin, that's not what coaches do. |

well Frattin too.
Gardiner's been 57 games, not an insignificant amount.
but you'll see it more next year - young guys he's had last 2 years ready to move up. wait till camp next year, you'll see a few guys challenging nobody expected to. Ashton is one of them.

If that is the case I may re-consider but until that happens he's helped really one player and I'm not sold that player wouldn't have done equally as well in the NHL earlier.

Also the Marlies did pretty well this year considering their star players from last year's Calder Finals run (Kadri, Frattin, Scrivens) had developed to the point where they were playing major roles in the NHL playoffs (well not Scrivens but you get my point). Those are big holes to fill on an AHL team and Eakins still got through a playoff round |

for what it's worth, that player was in the NHL earlier and didn't do very well... but I know what you're saying |

Only Kadri had any real significance and why Frattin keeps coming up when he played most of last season in the NHL and couldn't stay in the lineup this season.

BTW some of those players were replaced by NHLers like Tim Connolly.

So all the remaining five teams in the playoffs have won a Cup in the last five years. These greedy double dipping (frank)s don't have the decency to wait another 40 or 50 years like some of us. Somebody's gonna win another one...it's kind of cool because it's like a tournament of champions now, but it makes me puke too.
I'm over the event that happened in the last couple of minutes of the Leafs' season (as much as any of us can ever really be over it), and I want the new season to start now. Yeah yeah, get the rest of this poop over with and hit the restart button. I'm excited to watch this team play again. I hope they schedule Boston for the home opener. Like a home and home to start the season too. That would be hardcore |

That is a good point...I mean I guess it says it all about Connolly that he probably would fill a hole on an AHL team lol...
I don't know man, I have no idea how good coaches are. From what I gather a bunch of NHL people like Eakins and he's been winning hockey games so I figure he's at least got upside as a coach. If he signs with the Canucks as an NHL coach, I figure it's like losing a top 'draft pick' at the coaching position for nothing. Who knows how it'll go, but it's one of those assets.
That'd suck if he went anywhere especially the Canucks but good on him, there's only thirty of those jobs to get and guys competing for them. |

What's he won? How many NHLers has he really had a big hand in their development?
IMO a typical Toronto media made story. - honesthockey

this.
The guy is about to be hired by an NHL GM to be an NHL Head Coach. Guess what - that means he's a pretty good coach.

Who are the NHL people who say this? I believe he may have an upside but need to see a lot more. I'm not convinced yet that he's as good as the Toronto media says he is. He may be great with them though.

Explain the positive side? That he's got 5 NHL ready roster players that will make the Toronto Maple Leafs better next year? How about 1? |

Well from what I've read he's been on the radar for at least a couple of NHL teams as a coaching candidate. That's why Burke had him locked into his contract where he couldn't discuss openings with other teams, up until now, because they knew he was being headhunted for NHL coaching |

Why did we get rid of Steckel again?
I'm having a hard time believing anyone would rather want Boyd Gordon as 4C than David Steckel. - Whyaduck
Steckel is actually a UFA this summer. One possibility, as long as Nonis guarantees him to be a 4th line center. |
