Phaneuf and Gunner are replaceable. Since we have gardiner and franson doing so well. Rielly in the ranks along with percy, blacker, finn. And if its for a guy like mackinnon you do it, which is overpay. - Mapleleafs_91
not from within they aren't.
take those 2 off the roster and replace with other current Leafs, and Nonis could draft MacKinnon with his own pick this summer.

could help solidify the 3/4 C position, and gives them a guy other than bozak (if he's back) count on for faceoffs. - burn
which would have been pretty (frank)ing nice to have in game 7 |

nope - said that before.
Sign Bozak at $3.5M sure, keep him, move Grabo somehow.
But if Bozak is looking at $4.5M+, let him walk and keep Grabo.
Grabo will be 2nd line C next year. he's had a bad HALF a season. Rest of his career numbers are substantially better than Bozak's at both ends of the ice.
Should only keep one of them, and if it's a $1M difference (or less) you keep the better player. Grabo's the better player to this point in their careers. - Big_Lightnin
Notion seconded.
I'd much rather keep Grabo over Bozak. But money talks. |

oh hell ya worste case scenario is you have those 2 eating up $10M + in cap - Big_Lightnin
Would rather be overpaying Bozak over Grabs going forward...My fear is Nonis will be overpaying both... |

I'm on other side. Bozak literally will never be better than he was this year. That's his peak, and it wasn't as good as Grabo usually is.
For reference - know how Richards had a poop season, to the point it's being discussed he's done and his career is over, and more than likely getting bought out?
Bozak: 46GP 12G 28 pts, -1
Richards: 46GP 11G 34 pts +8 |

absolutely not. And no way they trade that pick without getting Reilly + +.
like Reilly, Phaneuf, + might get them to think about it, and it still probably better to draft MacKinnon.
you don't trade a pick like that, unless Pens want to free up Cap room and give them Malkin straight up |

oh hell ya, 3-4 yr deal. $3-4M per. He's got his money. worst case scenario it's an slight upgrade over Bozak. Best case it's a MASSIVE upgrade |

I like. And substitute Clarkson for Horton/Clowe and same outcome, more or less. It means we don't win any draws on the top two lines but we have some clout on the wings to win it back with jam.. |

Me thinks Torts getting canned bought guys like Richards some time to turn it around. They're not in cap trouble, and most definitely underachieved. I don't think he's going to be jettisoned; they have Hamrlik and Clowe coming off the books and besides a few RFAs, the rest of the roster is signed through 2013/14. |

Clowe is definitely not being resigned with the rangers. Too much $$$ they need to spend on their RFA'S. Brad Richards can be bought out too. Either way, it will be an interesting summer and to see what buyouts happen and to see how Nonis takes advantage.
Horton i can see being resigned by boston since they have the cap to either resign him for the same price or add about 500,000-1M more on top of his original salary. Since boston likes to keep their "cup guys" in tact.
I say our best option is clarkson, hopefully he does not resign with NJ. A buyout for richards and being signed by the leafs would also be a gift |

certainly cheaper option. And if they don't use their buyout they still can use it next summer, and it's way cheaper for them.

Firing RC not a option at this point..DE wants a head coach job..Nothing the Leafs can do other than let him go. |

they have $6M in cap room without Rask, Horton, or a backup goalie, or a 6th D-man. They can't resign Horton.
EDIT oh my bad that number includes Savard, so they have about $11M to sign Horton, Rask, 2 DMen, and a backup goalie.
ya still not happening.

Yeah, we're (finally) in good shape for a few years now come July 1st. Problem is, each July has been pretty terrible for high-end talent so marginal guys are raking it in. If we're smart up the middle and either resign Bozak to a reasonable extension or land a Gordon (and I like the latter better; actually getting a center, like McClement, that's right-sized for the slot in the line-up rather than trying to stuff the square peg Bozak into a round 1C hole), then we can add some size on the wing where we're actually weakest on the depth charts. |
