Devils fans, would you move Josefsson for Vancouver's first rd pick?

It should be around 23 or 24.

Thoughts?

Absolutely. Not sure if he is worth that much, however. We do have a lot of depth at center so a deal could definitely be made.

I actually wouldn't. I like his two-way game. He might not ever be the Zetterberg NJ hoped he would be, but what are you going to get at 24th anyway?

First round picks at that spot aren't all that great... you're just going to get another Josefsson except four years younger and much less developed. Then you get the 1/15 shot in him becoming an all star player, and then 1/5 shot at him becoming a 2nd liner. JJ is already an established 3rd liner, he has a good two-way game and still hasn't reached his ceiling.

Most of the time, you get the Correntes, Tedenbys, Bergfors, Josefssons, Matteaus, and other late picks.

Even at 9, look who's been selected the last ten years. The only real notables are Couture and Phaneuf. I love Couture, but after that, what is it, 1 in 10? Hamilton was in a strong draft (where he probably should have gone 5th or 6th), and Trouba might be pretty good... but we have no idea how they'll actually pan out, yet.

I would trade Hen or JJ to get into top 5 with the #9, but I wouldn't trade JJ for a late first. JJ IS a late 1st and four years down the road. Barkov and Nichushkin are probably going to be pretty good players. Monahan, Harvat, Domi... they're going to be probably pretty good 2nd liners.

I love JJ's defensive game but the Devils are strong at center and the Canucks' pick would be a more useful trade tool given the choices it provides to the team drafting at that point. I would make the deal and try to package it with 9th overall, Tedenby, and a defenseman to get Tampa's pick at 3. Drouin is exactly what the Devils need and Tampa would still be able to get a really good defensive prospect at 9th. If we couldn't use the pick to trade up then I'd wait to see if someone like Zykov, Rychel slipped to that slot. If no one is available that's a steal to the Devils, then they can move down and gather more picks for either this year or next. This year's second and third rounds are going to have some real studs like Carrier, Lehkonen, Petan, Subban, Comrie, Jarry, and Bell. The Devils need to either get a star out of this draft or at least find a way to make up for not having a 1st next year. JJ has been injured too much in my opinion to say that he's as seasoned as the average 22 year old prospect so I don't mind replacing him with a younger player.
