thats what i said...get a top 6 guy and then a top pairing dman (via trade)...at the end of the day the islanders have more prospects, with value, then they do have spots available. therefore theyll NEED to unload players otherwise their value will be squashed... there are somewhere between 5-6 prospects and not many spots available on the 4 lines... there WILL BE trades. mark it down! lock it up!
- LetsGoIsles

Not really. Leaving these kids in the AHL to sharpen their game is not such a bad thing. I really don't see Snow unloading any of these kids except for maybe(and this a a BIG MAYBE) Nino bcs of what we all know. NY178 is probably going to have an exciting team to watch in Bridgeport next year(minus the two fwds and Donovan maybe we are horpefully calling up?).

The Rangers are not going to hire Doug Weight. Their management feels they are a contender now. The Rangers aren't going to hire a guy with no head coaching experience and only two years of working as an assistant under Cappy to coach them now. Lindy Ruff is probably the likeliest hire for the Rangers. They're going to go with someone with experience, a track record that will be respected by veteran players, not a rookie coach on any level.

Problem with Ruff he wants to be GM as well and the Rangers are not going to do that

No but he may just take a coaching job if he doesn't have an offer as GM/coach?

I really don't think Ruff is the answer for the Rangers to be honest. He is just as cold as Torts but whatever.

I do believe the Islanders would thrive under Torts. these guys would not be allowed to take a game off and he would have them playing every day like they did the last few weeks of this season

I did. In fact I'll be the first to say when he was available I was the one in here hooting and hollering for him to be hired. I like him, I thought he was a great coach but from what I saw this past season and his style of play, how he handled his players I wouldn't want him as coach of the Islanders. Maybe this shortened season is an abberation but he was more Jaques Lemaire than John Torterella this past season. An ineffective Jacques Lemaire at that. I think Weight would have that same effect you're looking for.

Patrick Roy said Tuesday he would've taken the Colorado Avalanche's head coaching position even if it didn't include the title of vice president of hockey operations.
Roy was officially introduced Tuesday after signing a four-year contract with a fifth year that's an option year. While it's good PR for him to say he didn't need the personnel title, we're not all that sure he's being 100 percent honest. The additional title affords him major say in personnel matters and, according Renaud Lavoie, Roy said he'll be the one talking trades with other general managers in the Avs' new front office structure. That kind of control is hard for anyone to turn down.

Shouldn't he still call Greg Sherman since he's the GM?

Ruff is way better for them than Tortorella; as would be Capuano, for that matter. Tortorella would be way better for us than he was for them, as would Weight. Younger players need more of a boot in the pants than older, more experienced players do, for the most part. Belittling a Brad Richards, who has scored 800 points and has a ring, is pointless- if the guy like that is going through a slump, it is what it is. Making a Kyle Okposo show up for work every day, on the other hand, is best suited to someone who is more of a pain in the a$$, IMO.

Correct, it is NY and when you refer to the "anything can happen" mentality that to me is more Rangers like behaviour. Wang kept Milbury on as long as he did bcs he liked him on a personal level for the most part, forget about the abysml job the guy did. Snow is Wang's boy, he's going no where.
- Cptmjl

He kept him on for 5 seasons, 3 of which we went to the playoffs... just saying

Just out of curiosity, how much would it cost for a round trip train ticket from the East End to Brooklyn and back to watch a game?

I already have. this team has a history to disappoint. As I said right now there is no goalie at all. I am hoping that we don't go into the season with Poulin and or Nillson. I believe if Nabby is not signed we need to sign a veteran goaltender. LEts face it without Nabby this year we are not a playoff team. That being said we don't make the right descion on goal tending we can be another lottery team. We are that close from being one again.

On the upswing I do love the prospects we have and I am very impressed with them, but they have yet to play at the NHL level. Lets see how they do with the big club before we start labeling them the next Super Mario or Gretzky

East End as in where? Montauk? Suffolk county in general? LIRR from most places fans would travel from it'd prob be 18 bucks?
- Cptmjl

I'm not terribly good at Long Island geography, so I just used "East End" from the post I was replying to.

The reason I was asking is I was just wondering how much it would cost for Nassau and Suffolk County folks who up until now would make a short drive to the game, and in the future will have to take a train.

Because for me, I prefer the public transit route. I'm a Leafs fan, so I will typically drink heavily at hockey games.

First bold, no it doesn't but as anyone can see if you put an even slightly competitive team on the ice you won't be able to get a ticket to a game. This team in the late 70's/80's and early nineties even was the hottest ticket in the NHL. You couldn't get a ticket to a game. Not worried. As for the second bold, who cares?

they just did not like him. He was to hard on them. I mean if you were not playing he bench your ass. That is what the Isles need. A coach with a set to bench guys for a period or so when they do something wrong. Instead of babying them and patting them on the butt saying it is ok
