Just out of curiosity, how much would it cost for a round trip train ticket from the East End to Brooklyn and back to watch a game?
- Atomic Wedgie

East End as in where? Montauk? Suffolk county in general? LIRR from most places fans would travel from it'd prob be 18 bucks?

OK, fair enough, perhaps I was a little sloppy in my language here.

But moving to a brand spanking new building does not guarantee financial success. That's the point I was trying to make.

The Penguins were handed a brand new arena.

The Islanders are merely tenants in a new one.

- Atomic Wedgie

First bold, no it doesn't but as anyone can see if you put an even slightly competitive team on the ice you won't be able to get a ticket to a game. This team in the late 70's/80's and early nineties even was the hottest ticket in the NHL. You couldn't get a ticket to a game. Not worried. As for the second bold, who cares?

hmmm I believe it is about at least 20 dollars one way if I am not mistaken

you are mistaken unless the LIRR has doubled their rates

I don't know KEaner going by his smug response and his smirks he was pretty pissed about that question. Like how dare you question my choices?

Snow should get a spoke person to do these interviews for him. I hate him a little more every time I watch one.

Like I have said we shall see with a full season and what Garth does during the offseason. Does he sign any decent free agents? Does he sign the goalie we need? Does he let Mark Streit walk and if so does he get that defenseman??
- kasperrko

This is going to be a HUGE offseason for Snow and not bcs of FA or trades, etc. but more bcs of what he does in house. Boyes? Streit? Nabby? HUGE. It will speak volumes about what kind of GM he really is.

eh, theyll need to spend to get to the floor, maybe nothing SPECTACULAR in terms of free agents but definitely quality players out there, dont forget about buyouts that are looming and having all those prospects will lead to a major trade... i disagree, i think their window is open and they should seize the opportunity; pick up 1 top 6 forward and a top pairing dman (via trade or buyout) and now we are talking...
- LetsGoIsles

Should be a interesting offseason just for this reason alone. There is going to be a lot of good, veteran players who just need a change of scenery out there.

Weight I hate the idea. Ruff I'm completely fine with. 2 years ago I didn't want Weight to be coach of thiss team simply bcs he wasn't ready. He's got a few years under his belt now and I'm a firm believer that he was more of the motivator than Capuano. I wanted him as our new coach over Capuano.

The Rangers are not going to hire Doug Weight. Their management feels they are a contender now. The Rangers aren't going to hire a guy with no head coaching experience and only two years of working as an assistant under Cappy to coach them now. Lindy Ruff is probably the likeliest hire for the Rangers. They're going to go with someone with experience, a track record that will be respected by veteran players, not a rookie coach on any level.

I can certainly see Ruff being hired but I can see Weight as well. New coach, new direction, new style. Wouldn't be the first time the Rangers went that direction(Trottier, Campbell) with a veteran team(Also keep in mind the Rangers have one of the youngest teams in the NHL).

I'm not interested in trading for a player of that stature unless it's a steal. We have two top six forwards coming into our system and 2 maybe 3 defensemen that will arrive within th enext two years. I'd rather we sign a top six guy at no expense to the system. Next years free agent crop is DEEP. I'd prefer we stay the course with an eye on that season rather than trying to make an expensive leap.

I would not mind Weight being Islander coach. I would give Cappy a two year deal only and have Weight ready to step in.

As for Streit...eh, I couldn't care much less with what happens there. Sure, I wish we could have gotten a pick for him but I still don't think we would have done any better than a 2nd rounder. In the end, the value of having him with the team for the playoff seriese warranted not trading him. That said, the guy looked pretty bad in the Pens series and clearly is poor in his own zone. I'd prefer we make a FA play for a bit more rounded of a top 4 guy rather than a #5 guy who happens to spend time squandering power play opportunities while relying solely on poke checks for his defensive play. I'd rather we call Donnovan up and fast track Rhinehart for the following season. There are a few defensive free agents I think would be decent upgrades on Streit not to mention the future cap casualties.

Tough to argue the logic...hell, half of us wanted Okposo and Bailey gone by midseason last year but Snow remained patient and look what happened. We're all hoping for a quick evolution but the bottom line is the evolution is taking place. It's been an organic growth with this team and given the exciting prospects we have in the system, I'm okay if it continues that way. Just give us a couple of useful additions, not Rolston's or Boyes but actual useful additions and we'll be fine.

I think Streit needs to be let go. I'm interested to see what Donovan or Reinhart could do. Isles need to move on from guys like Streit and Boyes.

thats what i said...get a top 6 guy and then a top pairing dman (via trade)...at the end of the day the islanders have more prospects, with value, then they do have spots available. therefore theyll NEED to unload players otherwise their value will be squashed... there are somewhere between 5-6 prospects and not many spots available on the 4 lines... there WILL BE trades. mark it down! lock it up!

I agree with what you said here for the most part but I think you're doing some assuming to an extent? I definitely wanted Okposo gone(not Bailey)but to say Snow remained patient is almost as bad as continually lambasting management for past errors or inaction. I can just as easily say he could'nt find the right deal which there seems to be more truth too from what we are hearing out of Winnipeg? As for the rest I agree, just adding a couple pieces nothing crazy. Sign the right players and let the wrong players walk. A few kids coming up. Sign a couple vets that can actually contribute and that's it. That's all Snow will do and I think that's the right plan of action this year.
