I highly doubt the brand new Avalanche coach has any say as to whether they trade the pick or not. ('or not', being the only option).
- eichiefs9

Heard an interview on the radio on my way into work this morning that pretty much said Roy will have more say than even Sherman. Almost like there was no need for a GM with him coming on board.

It sounded kind of weird but I guess we'll see.

Maybe Katie dear will approve one of these in a matter of days after the winning bid is chosen. Charles should sell to Ratner/Prokorov, have Ratner rebuild and move back after 2 years. The majority of fans are in Nassau/Suffolk. Who knows how they will draw at Barclays. They will always draw well here as long as the team is competitive, especially in a new building

speculation.

and being more centrally located in brooklyn is a good bet that theyll be getting a good draw (fans and companies), especially with a young up and coming team...personally, i think getting a BIG TICKET RUSSIAN player IE oveckin, would be amazing considering the russian population in bk

do i think itll happen? no...but it could be in their best interest to cater to the russian population a little

of course he should. any GM that doenst should be fired. Every GM will inquire and see what it would take. Obviously its going to be the farm, but who knows. Maybe Roy over values some of our prospects.

Avs need D...so i would take a guess it would take 2 first rounders, Reinhart and another B prospect.

or a roster spot player, possibly grabner...

i havent read further but REALLY hoping at some point you say this is SERIOUS overpayment....*fingers crossed*....

I'll ask it again....how many owners did this team have, since Pickett said he needed a new building in 1991? Sports owners, by and large, don't build buildings unless there is SOMETHING in it for them. Nassau wasn't getting a free arena, without strings attached. I can pretty much guarantee that whatever these plans are will involve more of the same, OR they will involve some sort of exclusive marketing deal for the winner- no one is building an arena just because he's a nice guy. It simply doesn't happen.

The loss of the Islanders is exclusively the fault of Nassau County, and the Town of Hempstead, who should have dealt with this and found some way to contribute years ago. As I said many times, I'd have told them to f**k off as soon as I heard a building was being built in Brooklyn- Wang did everything he reasonably could be expected to in order to make this happen.

But we wouldn't be surprised with Snow and his habits of trading down. Thank God he didn't in 2009
- mighty13duck

this is such an outdated argument!!!! if someone wants to knock garth for not making trades, fine...(although he showed where patience got the team to)

but to knock his drafting is insane!!!!

you make it sound like hes made OUTRAGEOUS deals...name one outrageous deal!!!

I honestly feel once the team moves to Brooklyn things will change. Wang (God cant believe I am saying this) actually is doing the right thing but staying as far away to the salary cap as possible. In that case in a couple of years we can spend big money on some big free agents. We have all the money in the world. A new building and everything else. I also believe it is make or break year for guys like Capuano and the coaching staff, Garth Snow, and certain players. I think moving to Brooklyn means there will be even a higher demand to put an amazing product on the ice and win and Wang will be force to that or sell the team to Ratner and company

Maybe.

But maybe not.

Really hard to tell how the finances will shake out - remember, the Islanders are tenants - they don't have a brand new building that has been handed to them.

Without seeing the lease, you can't be certain that it will be a better financial situation for the Islanders in their new home. Who gets the luxury box revenues? Who gets the beer sales?

It's going to be interesting to watch.

Except maybe it never made sense from a financial perspective for a suburban county to hand over huge dollars for an arena.

Yes I noticed that but that was half a season. Then there should be no excuses to not make it next year in a full season. If they become a bottom 5 team again next year then yes Wang will have to make some descions there

Got to admit though, snow is a genius. Look what he did in a half of season

Oh and lets not forget that memorable interview with Howie Rose when Howie asked about getting a power forward for Tavares. Snow thought Boyes was perfect for that role. Obviously Garth has not watch much hockey lately

You're not just a little wrong here, you're A LOT wrong. This team, cable contract and all, is losing $16 million annually because of the worst lease in all of professional sports. It's the same general lease that nearly sent the Penguins into oblivion if it were not for the state stepping in to help finance the new arena. There's no way this new lease is anywhere close to being THAT bad.

Maybe but if they fail to make the playoffs next year and resort back to a bottom 5 team, means last year was a fluke and so is Garth and Crappy

Hey, have to give credit. If this team continues to gel and perform and he adds the right pieces I'll look back and say he did a great job in the end. There are some ifs but for once I'm leaning more positive than negative. He just needs to add or subtract the right players. This is where he has to show he is a GM and not just a scout.
