What's the story on this kid?
- 2raven2

12. Ryan Pulock, Defense, Brandon (WHL)

Finding the perfect spot for Pulock was difficult. Some scouts consider him to be a top-eight player in this draft, whereas others prefer him in the 11-15 range. Despite concerns, he has been one of the WHL's top offensive defensemen for the past three seasons. He tied for the points lead among all Wheat Kings this year. His best tool is his shot, which is elite, and NHL teams will utilize it atop the umbrella on their first power play unit. It has been clocked at over 100 miles per hour in skills competitions. His offensive game is well rounded, as he is a high-end thinker who has been described as a methodical puck mover. Pulock always seems to make the right decisions, whether it is to rush, pass, or shoot. Defensively, he is strong on his checks, controls his gaps well, and generally stays with his assignments. Still, he is prone to a breakdown at certain times. The biggest criticism of Pulock is his skating. Some scouts describe it as average, others as above average. Despite having solid mobility, he does not seem to have a blazing top gear. His game is more based on feel than dangling or pushing the pace.

Ranking explanation: The difference between Pulock and Andre Burakowsky is not one of upside, but one of risk. Burakowsky may have more potential than Pulock, but I approach Burakowsky with an above-average level of uncertainty. He was inconsistent this season, and there have been some concerns about his skill set. Pulock's record of success in the WHL for three years running makes him a more stable selection. Teams know what they will be getting with him. His flaws are evident, but not enough to push him out of this range. He projects as a top pairing defenseman without a moderate risk element. Burakowsky, and the prospects immediately after him, all have notable question marks either regarding risk factors or that bring their ultimate upsides into doubt.

explosive puck moving d man, said to have one of the best shots from the point. Future Mark Streit with a ton better upside. He's gonna create havoc for opposing teams with his breakout passing and skating.

Should snow call Roy about the first overall pick?

- 2raven2

Shouldn't he call Greg Sherman since he's the GM?

Patrick Roy said Tuesday he would've taken the Colorado Avalanche's head coaching position even if it didn't include the title of vice president of hockey operations.
Roy was officially introduced Tuesday after signing a four-year contract with a fifth year that's an option year. While it's good PR for him to say he didn't need the personnel title, we're not all that sure he's being 100 percent honest. The additional title affords him major say in personnel matters and, according Renaud Lavoie, Roy said he'll be the one talking trades with other general managers in the Avs' new front office structure. That kind of control is hard for anyone to turn down.

Quick is a machine in the playoffs.
- Danformo

Absolute portrait of calm.
He absolutely, calmly, stood on his head the last 5 minutes. Pavelski should have gotten some air under his shot, but he didn't, and Quick made the save of the game. Stoned Galliardi, Couture and Thornton in the last 2 minutes. Most clutch goalie in the whole league at this point.

What does Dolan have to do with the Islanders moving to Brooklyn.

If Mr Wang would have really cared about the Islanders he would have
just renovated the Coliseum 10 years ago!

He was only in it for the 3 billion dollar real estate deal.
Watch how fast he sells the team.

Not for nothing but you really can't blame Wang for not spending his own money to renovate a building that he doesn't own. You can blame him for many things but that is not one of them.

I agree there playing in the same arena I think that would be good if they share YES
- NYI44

Aside from the huge contract with MSG, the other problem with YES is that they have no spill over channels like MSG does. When the Yankees, Nets and Islanders are all playing at the same time theres no way to watch them all.

It's simply not even worth considering. The only reason this team still exists is because it received one of the most lucrative cable contracts in all of sports. Contracts like this typically don't get signed anymore and certainly not over a period of 30 years. The Isles will remain on MSG though 2030.

You are clearly misinformed. Not surprising, since you're a Ranger fan and probably could care less about the Isles. That means you didn't follow the history leading to the move to Bklyn.

I'm not going to re-hash the history here for you. The scope of your analysis is way too narrow. The Isles headed to Brooklyn is the result of way more than Charles Wang "not wanting to renovate the coliseum", a building he doesn't own and pays rent to have the Isles play in. There are 10 years and dozens of factions/individuals responsible for the Isles moving to Brooklyn.

Ok, someone please explain something to me. Charles wants to finance a new arena, rejected. Everything he proposes is rejected by Nassau. Now all of a sudden, a couple of weeks after Charles announces the move to Barclays, there is an announcement that Nassau is collecting bids for the hub (what a coincidence). Now there are 4 bids (2 of which are obviously being seriously considered) and it seems like one of them will be approved. One includes MSG of all people reconstructing the Coliseum to hold about 14,000 and bring in an AHL team (guess which one). Ratner wants to do the same but allow the Isles to play 6 games per year plus the AHL team. If it can hold an AHL team and the Isles can play 6 games/year, then why are they moving in the first place? If you can rebuild it for AHL teams or 6 NYI games, why is Nassau ok with this but content with them leaving. How are they not better off with an NHL team. I'm missing something. This is a joke!!!!!!
- NYI_since_72

there is nothing to understand. The entire 10+ year debacle is beyone human comprehension and completely devoid of common sense. The bottom line is because of the ineptitude of a number of politicans and the special interests of the influential few, the team is moving on to (much) greener pastures. Bklyn will be different, and will take some time to get used to. But in the end, the franchise is going to be far better off than they ever could be playing out in the suburbs. And as Isles' fans, that's what should matter most.

Don't get me started. If Capuano gets his wish this team will realize just how important Grabner is.

The arena's configuration for hockey is still a huge question mark.

It's not a question mark, is what it is for the most part. Eventually if need be they will reconfigure it somehow. You can't do much bending with a 25 year lease. The team staying in NY was the number 1 concern to each and every Islander fan and now that we know that is happening I don't think the configuration is keeping any of us up at night?

- Vukota

I'll ask it again....how many owners did this team have, since Pickett said he needed a new building in 1991? Sports owners, by and large, don't build buildings unless there is SOMETHING in it for them. Nassau wasn't getting a free arena, without strings attached. I can pretty much guarantee that whatever these plans are will involve more of the same, OR they will involve some sort of exclusive marketing deal for the winner- no one is building an arena just because he's a nice guy. It simply doesn't happen.

The loss of the Islanders is exclusively the fault of Nassau County, and the Town of Hempstead, who should have dealt with this and found some way to contribute years ago. As I said many times, I'd have told them to f**k off as soon as I heard a building was being built in Brooklyn- Wang did everything he reasonably could be expected to in order to make this happen.
