Adam French: Draft Spotlight : Devils
- AdamFrench

I honestly don't think the Devils will be targeting a goalie with that second round pick. At this point, it's either Kinkaid/Wedgewood or bust for the future beyond Marty. Any goalie they likely draft with that pick won't be ready until probably like three or four years. I guess if they are looking to add goalies for later, then it makes a bit of sense.

However, right now the biggest need is some dynamic offensive skill. Our forward pool is absolutely atrocious right now.

Just as a curiosity, is there any interest in Ari Ahonen of returning to North America, he's been posting insane numbers for a few years now.

Seems destined to fall to the third...then people get to whine when he shows off his skills like they do with Gallagher. Love Cammarata.

So with Roy making noise about the first overall pick. Makes me wonder who from his current squad does he try draft our acquire?

They'll be plenty happy with Jones. Typical fishing for an overpayment prior to the draft.

I remember hearing Nichuskin ( I don't know how to spell) has a few years left on a KHL deal is that true?

He has the permission to leave Moskva if he is signed and makes an NHL team. No word on what happens if he doesn't make the team though I would expect he would honor his 5 mil potential contract.

Yakimov is one of the older players in the draft having recently turned 18. He’s a big, strong center with good speed and excellent offensive abilities. At 6’4 220 (What are they feeding him?) you would hope for more physicality and throwing some hits, sadly it isn’t his game. His size does come in handy around the net and on the forecheck though. He has consistency issues with effort from game to game, but he’s shown that he can play high end hockey when it matters like in the playoffs and the WJC-U18 and U-19. He began the year in the VHL which is the second tier Russian men’s league and looked very good (The league stinks but he’s a kid) but is back in the MHL. He has a very strong defensive game, but he needs to work on his faceoffs.

Writing what I said early last year. Same deal. He's shown some better offensive instincts in the MHL but being up and down between leagues hurt his chemistry. Hasn't played in a long time and is an extremely early birthday so he'll likely fall to the 6th-7th round, if he wasn't Russian he'd probably be around the 3rd.

Big issue is he plays in the absolute booneys. Few guys get drafted from that region.
