No kidding. Your original premise was the amount of teams that a person played for, now since that has been debunked you are morphed into your next part of the argument. To debunk this I will use Patrick Roy as an example. - Gunner Staal
My point is Gretz is a very special case, and as far as Roy is concerned the Habs retire every player that have ever played for them. Its kind of pointless, its like our ring of honor here in the Burgh. You were a good player lets throw your number up in the rafters. Too me its kind of silly the numbers Habs players have to wear, 51, 67,73, 74,76,79.
To me the Pens treat putting names in the rafters a little bit differently than the Habs do. |

Yeah, Roy's number 33 hangs in Montreal, even though the whole trade to the Avs was pretty ugly. |

No I don't forget that, but I could very easily make a case for why Gretz number should be retired in all of the arenas he played in, well maybe not the Rags.
Jags leaving is not the only reason I don't believe he will not have his number up in the rafters here. What he did last year was an insult to the organization and to Mario Lemuiex himself, using leverage to get more money at your "friends" expense is a pretty low thing to do.

Patrick Roy is the best goalie of all time.
Jaromir Jagr is the best European player of all time.
Also the bolded part would fly against your logic, Jagr wears 68, so he wouldnt be taking up any "normal" number being retired, he just wears a "silly" number. |

And my stance is that 2 instances (the "dying alive" and last year) does not take away from the fact he was the best player in the NHL for years when he was wearing a Pens sweater. What he did for this team outweighs the few moments of stupidity. |

I can totally understand why you think he should be up there, I just don't think he will be.
Maybe someday he will be. |

Disagree with me or not, you don't think that the numbers the Habs have to wear look dumb?
Let me put it this way, numbers being retired is a huge honor in my eyes.
No one including Michel Briere deserve to be up there right now next to Mario.
Jagr would be the closest guy that would be deserving of having that honor someday. I just don't see it happening.

It's interesting that, with Gretzky, they retired his number league wide "officially", but you don't see anybody now wearing #66 or even #68, other then Jags himself. |

No, I pretty much proved that the number a player wears doesnt matter, its the person wearing it. |

Holds no bearing to what were talking about but ok.
The Habs have so many numbers retired that the numbers they are forced to wear look dumb. |

Define a dumb number, really specifically define what your standard is of a dumb number.
Make sure that definition doesn't conflict with the numbers 99, 66, 68, 77, 91, 87, 71, 58, 88, 65, 55 etc... |

Paul Coffey - Gunner Staal
Wayne though cried the day he was traded. He didn't cry leading up to the trade and demand it. Jagr on ice performance merits a lot of praise but myself and I would think most of Pittsburgh won't be able to get over his off the ice antics. The way the Philly signing played out which to me I was angry but not that big of a deal, him not showing up for the cup teams reunions golf games. When I look up and remember pens greats and tell my kids about it I want to tell them about a man I respect. He garners none from me.
And I only look at things from a fan perspective just to be clear. I unfortunately am not employed by the organization or am in no way a hockey professional. Full disclosure |

Your right, Montreal's uni's look 100% normal will almost 20 retired numbers that are not used.
1,2,3,4,5,7,9,10,12 (twice),16 (twice),18,23,29,33; who wants to wear those weird numbers anyways.
Nisky, Murray, Eaton, Engo, Martin, Duper, Iggy, Sutter, Neal, and Flower would all need new numbers but its cool totally normal. |

I look at it as if my "friend" publicly humiliated me and I was a deciding factor if we honor that man for the rest of time. |
