That's true, but if all are gone, you don't take an inferior forward if the best player there is a defenseman. And Ristolainen > Domi. You either trade down, or pick Ristolainen if the circumstances align so that he's left and the top forwards are gone. - isles10289
There should be a forward worth taking at 9. If not, I could definitely see Lou trading down, or up if he foresees it as a problem. |

It sounds like a forward who had a good rookie season but lost his confidence and could easily equate to Kevin Todd, a defenceman who might be a solid 3-4 pairing (and might be nothing) and the #9 pick (when the consensus are that the elite talent level dies off at around 7) for one of the elite 3 prospects. So at best, 2 good players and a good prospect for a superstar prospect. At worst, 2 pluggers and an average prospect for a superstar prospect.
With that deal, I don't think you're touching top 3. You might reach top 7, though, and get one of the upper echelon prospects. Carolina or Calgary I could see going for it. With Carolina's pick you'd probably be snagging either Nichushkin or Barkov with an outside shot at Drouin. Three really good prospects. That would be the angle I would play to make a splash at the draft. You're only moving up 4 spots, but it gets you into a much better tier of prospect who will likely turn into a better player than either Henrique or Urbom (and probably quicker) I would say. |

I was actually thinking about this for some weeks now. I thought people would think I'm nuts for even mentioning Henrique's name in a trade. However, this is why I would trade Henrique: I love the type of player that he is and is a born leader, but I'm not completely sold on him. He scored 14/15 goals his first year, that was with Kovy and Parise. He played with Elias and Clarkson most the time and wasn't able to contribute as much. Plus, he could end of being like Gomez, in that, he may only score around 15 goals his career. Gomez has only scored 20 or more goals once and that was after the last lockout. Not saying he won't score more, but Loki, Zajac, and Gionta in at center, he may play first line sometimes, and second or third line other times. I just think he needs a better support cast to succeed offensively, like Chicago or Colorado.
I would propose trading Henrique, Urbom, and something else, but not the 9th, for either the first or second. If it was Colorado's 1st, I would try to get Statnsy, so we fill the center position and Colorado frees up the 6.5 cap hit. That would most likely include the 9th though. I would even go as far as trading Clarkson to Colorado with a second or third thrown in from Colorado. This of course depends on how much he wants. Than I would see if Tuomo Ruutu was available from Carolina for a pick. However, we could always sign Ryder or Clowe at free agency. - Devils9503
You're right Henrique totally resembles Gomez

Could you get Stastny from Co, absolutely.
Could you get the #1 overall pick from Co, not a chance. |

Bit much if you ask me. I'd say Henrique+9th gets us a 2nd rounder, and thats if we're lucky and the team is desperate |

why are we looking to trade Henrique, the guy to move is Larsson, while he still has value, trade him to a team needing defense in the top 8 picks. then take both Monahan and shinkurk. |

I don't see getting in the top 3, but maybe 5, being as the Cane's really need D. If we got 5th perhaps we could draft Nichushkin? More russian chemistry for Kovy. |

Sign Clowe for $4M per if Clarkson wants $5M per, get one of Girardi or McDonagh if the Rags can't retain both & opt to trade one, grab the best scoring prospect they can at #9 (or trade up and get a better FW who may be able to slot into the starting lineup on day 1), re-sign Elias. Take a long look at Horton & or Stalberg.
That's all I got.

Clarkson kills every play. He contributes when he takes a shot and it either goes in or gets a favorable bounce. .. but as for making plays and sustaining pressure, he kills everything. It's no wonder Henrique didn't flourish with Clarkson. |

Yeah, outside of the first 10 games patty and clarkson sucked together. Henrique missed most of those first 10 games. |

Not sold on Clowe, considering its been rumoured that he's more interested in term rather than money, and it already looks like his body won't hold up much longer. No way we trade for a ranger. Lou has made 0 trades with the rangers and I doubt the first one is for a key player. |
