I believe that rule will be challenged in a court of law. If they grandfather it in that is acceptable , but to agree that a contract is approved by them, and then penalized will not fly. Also by then there will be other teams like TB Hawks NJ Mtl LA Nash Minn all complaining to the league ,not jut Vancouver. - VANTEL
What happens if the new CBA still isn't even signed by end of summer? I still haven't seen anything further to that. |

This is what I'd like, as well.
Definitely helps that the 3rd line will likely consist of guys who are quite defensively capable, as well—Hansen, Schroeder, Higgins, most likely.
That line is a little small, but would have enough speed and skill to burn a bigger 4th line if they got caught out against one, and would likely be able to contain most skill lines alright.
Fill up the 4th line with a couple bigger guys, and a C that can win faceoffs in the offensive zone. - Fosco
The following year would be Gaunce maybe centering it and hopefully Schroeder develops into a second line center. |

It's HB. It always comes full circle and ends up exactly the opposite of what the NHL team will actually do. - AlexF
Speaking for myself, I almost never talk about what teams will do. I talk about what teams should do (IMO, from a business perspective aka being profitable while competing for a cup every single season). |

If a case like that ever went to court it would be laughed at and tossed out as illegal in minutes.
Buttman will probably be retired by then and Jacobs will be pushing daisies |

Henrik is the best choice for the captain on the team.
Captains don't have to be loud or brash.
If the guys in the locker room didn't have confidence in him as captain, it will/would have been taken away, or wouldn't have been awarded to him in the first place.
Also, players don't need letters on their shoulders to lead—many if the other players suggested on here already contribute leadership, and can continue to do so, captain or not. - Fosco

Those are my top 3 as well. Hamhuis is the mild mannered/reserved type that I would be happy to see wearing the "C". |

DCT wants to buy him out - Michael_Stuart
Yeah, but I can appreciate DCT's points and they way he makes his argument. I think there are going to too many ways around the recapture clause, but it is a SIGNIFICANT risk for teams that commit to spending to the cap. I have been looking for the article posted on TSN sometime in January about the legal ramifications of a clause that makes a legal contract illegal from one agreement to the next, the author didn't think it would stick. I guess we'll see.
Personally I don't think there will be many players bought out but there are some pretty stupid GM's out there so I guess anything is possible. |

Incorrect.
If the Canucks agree to the new CBA, the NHL can enforce it.
Otherwise, the Leafs could just decide to spend over the cap. |

I'd go off the board and name Garrison the C, he does most closely resemble Johnny Canuck. |

KB Burrows (if he stays) Hamhuis - VANTEL
Don't like KB or Burr for captain—too yappy, and when KB opens his mouth it may be hilarious, or a good sound bite, but it's rarely the type of comment I want from a captain. Burrows's reputation would hurt him, and the team if he were captain, as well.
Hamhuis is more timid than either Sedin. |

But Gillis could trade Lu for Vinny and a high prospect and buy out Vinny . |

It's a very real possibility Avs might trade No. 1 pick, or try to trade to get top two picks. Gonna be interesting
O'Reilly + Erik Johnson for the #2 pick? - AlexF
O'Reilly hasn't served a full year since the offer sheet. |

The time to make that deal was before the Lightning drafted Vasilevski and brought in Lindback/Bishop. As you know, I'm a huge Luongo fan. |

The best thing for the franchise is to trade Schneider and keep Lu, but that probably won't happen. I know you think Lu wants out, but he's stated that it is possible that he'd stay here under the right circumstances. |
