I've seen a lot of Myers and he just has issues between his ears. You are probably in the 1% who would put Jones and Myers as having comparable talent and potential. But we all have our opinions.
- GilPerreault11

I think this might be a case where we gotta wait til they're both older than 23 and 18 to judge, and when myers isn't coming off an 8 point season

They have comparable talent and potential. Would you not say that if Myers turns his game around considering what he did his rookie year and in the playoffs against Philly that he doesn't have the potential to win hardware?

Yea and that's kind of my point. Regardless of how good Jones or Mackinnon look they are all just potential right now. Same with Myers, his value is at an all time low. No point in trading him now

I don't know, I guess I'm losing patience with him and like most people would trade Myers for Jones in a heartbeat. Jones is expected to be a franchise D. Myers showed some of that 3 years ago, but has been God awful more often than not since.

He has been. I guess what i'm saying is that there is no guarantee on Jones either. He could end up taking 4-5 years to become a franchise guy and by that time who knows what Myers will be doing. It all depends I guess

If it gets you someone to make the team better you do. I had your mentality last year with regard to Myers. The Sabres can't trade him, he could turn out to be great, but not like that anymore. They are rebuilding and need top blue chip prospects for their plan. If Myers could be in a trade to get MacKinnon then so be it, I'd do it.

Mackinnon to Colorado leaves an interesting situation. Who goes where because right now, Stastny is playing third line center.

If it were Mackinnon. Im all for it. He would be our franchise center. With Jones, you would be taking a guy who is suppose to be your franchise d-man and trading him and a few other peices for a guy that could be your franchise d-man. Doesn't help the rebuild IMO.

Except your stupidity is showing as well. Sakic has FINAL say on those matters. Joe will make that decision, not Saint Patrick.

I agree, I wouldn't trade Myers and the rest for a chance to draft Jones even though he will most likely be better than Myers. He won't be that much better to do that trade but trading Myers and the rest for MacKinnon would be worth it in my opinion. The Sabres haven't had a top line center since LaFontaine and they don't grow on trees. The Sabres have had maybe three in their history. Perreault, LaFontaine and on a lesser level, Hawerchuk.

The Sabres will give you Myers, Sekera, the 8th pick and a 2nd for the 1st overall. You will have your lots of D if you take one at 8th.
- GilPerreault11

Take away Sekera and add any prospect and I would take that deal. No doubt. Myers as well as the 8th overall would be worth it, throw in the second, no way Avs would say no.

Stastny for Phaneauf, grabo, and a second

O'Reilly for Postma and second

make a hard push for Streit sign Raymond

McGinn Duchene Parenteau
Landy MacKinnon Downie
Raymond Grabo Jones
Bordeleau Malone Palushaj

Heida Phaneauf
Johnson Barrie
Streit Obrien

Edit: if MacKinnon is taken first over all obviously

- shill-17

I would rather have stastny than Dion and Grabo with that awful contract is worth negative. Also if we are giving up RoR they would better be offering up Trouba or Burmistov with Postma.

Either way I would pass on all of this, avs are looking for young ELITE talent to win a cup, not quick fixes with moderate skill.

We have a ton of D prospects such as Siemens, Barrie and Elliot who could get ice time in the future. EJ and Hejda are solid but honestly we need offense more than D at this point. Sekera is just thrown into every sabers deal to try and make it work, our D is bad now but we need a winger as well.

You mean draft a 6ft 18 year old centre, over a 5'10 winger, who had a hat trick to lead his team to the championship?

Seeing as how MacKinnon is better than Duchene, Statsny and O'reilly, yes I would draft MacKinnon. Jones is all hype. He won't even be the best d-man in this draft class.

I'd love to know why you think MacKinnon, at 6 feet, is undersized? Statsny, O'reilly are 6 feet and Duchene is 5'11, and they're all over 18 years of age.

- trolleytracks

Too early to say Mckinnon is better than Duchene. Especially with how he played last season. He is better than Stastny and RoR just plays a different style so they aren't as comparable.

Simple answer is Avs need a #1 Dman which Jones could be.

Sekera has arguably been the Sabres best D over the last two years. He's not a throw in. I have been one of his biggest supporters but since the Avs need D I would put him in this trade if it gets it done.

I wonder what the difference in value is between the top-3 picks. Would Florida or Tampa throw anything of value in with their 2nd/3rd pick to get #1?

I don't know what game you're watching but Jones is 1g +1 on a team down 4-2 that is pretty much all Drouin/MacKinnon. (10min remaining in 3rd period)

Jones is already a better D man than anybody on your scrub of a team.

- MisterC

lol i saw the game live. Both times Nathan Mackinnon easily proved hes the best available prospect going into the draft.

If Avs wanted Mckinnon rather than Jones then I think you would see the Avs do 2 things.

1) Trade Stastny before the Draft for the best reward

2) Trade the #1 pick to Fla for their #2 along with another asset. That way they get a free asset along with a Win/Win. Whether the panthers take Mck or Jones the avs get the other.

Also to the Buffalo player wanting to way overpay. Take out sekera, as well as your second and Make it Myers, Armia and your 8th for the 1st overall

Also wanted to give a shoutout to Garth for being an Avs blogger while one is absent from HB

COL should take Mackinnon and move Statsny at the deadline. Or let someone in the top 5 overpay you to get Mackinnon and take BPA.

I'd do it if it wasn't Armia. He, Girgs, and Grigs are the only untouchables on this team IMO.
