Who did you expect to win? Columbus & their 1% chance?
- Jsaquella

That is going with the idea that the actual lottery fell according to those rules, that the league fed everyone.

Nothing personal, but its far too easy to accept the status quo. Society does it far too often. Too trusting, when history shows us that to blindly trust those in power (of anything in life), isn't the best of plans.

I didn't expect any specific team to win. Seeing as the team with the greatest chances to win it only had a 1/4 chance, I couldn't expect a specific team to win. It was up in the air for me. It just worked out almost too perfectly for Colorado, is all I mean. And while I'm not saying any draft lottery before has been rigged, the draft lotteries in the past have had an odd way of working out very perfectly for certain teams (Edmonton with 3 in a row, now Colorado with the best chance at getting the home-town boy). Again, if they had just rolled the spots live on TV I would have nothing to complain about, but it's always behind closed doors.

Its not complaining, and you shouldnt have to defend yourself for questioning the things that go on around you.

I would, too. Kid could be the next Tavares.
- Jsaquella

hes going to be better than Tavares
trust me
the kid is absolutely unreal. you may laugh at me but he i think he will be the best player drafted since Crosby... yes including Stamkos & Tavares
He IS that good. The similarities between him and Crosby at that age were pretty freaking similar except that Crosby got more points... their style of play is the same, he is an all round player
Drouin to Stamkos SCORES! Get used to hearing that for the next 15 years...

My only question with Drouin would be how is his defensive game, and how will he overcome the physicality of the NHL.

He could well be. If I was picking first overall, he's the guy I'd take, regardless of which team I was GM of.

I got to watch all 9 games live, i was very lucky and honored. MacKinnon is a player that comes around once every 7-10 years or so. His potential is the sky TBH. He's that good.
Jones was very good in the tourney, but Nate got the best of him in the 2 head-head games Port vs Fax. Thing is Colorados d is so bad, and they've got 3 centers already... I personally would go MacKinnon 1st overall because of what he showed in the Mem Cup. He will be the best player in the draft.

Drouin is a fine 2 way player.
Drouin to me is pretty much a replica of Claude Giroux... they are so similar its freaky.
Drouin will be totally fine.

If MacKinnon is the best player, that is who Colorado should draft. They can trade Duchene or O'Reilly if they need defense.

Buyout Stastny, and make a package around ROR for a dman.
MacKinnon is the best player in the draft. He is. Jones will be a #1 dman, but Nate is an extremely special player...

Sorry, I don't follow blindly. But I also don't go looking for gunmen in the grassy knoll when a guy leaning out the 6th floor window.

Hardly seems like a vast conspiracy when the team with the second best odds to win the draft lottery does win. Hell, if it was a conspiracy, why not land a budding superstar in Phoenix?

I know it shouldnt have an effect on anything, but it will--- Jones' dad as well all know was a basketball star in Denver... he has ties to Colorado, so it'd have this whole storybook father-son Denver duo in 2 different sports ending, so it sets up a fairy tale right? Nate said not so fast in the Mem Cup

Colorado will choose Jones but should choose MacKinnon. And i honestly think if Jones had no ties to Denver with his dad, Nate would go #1

just what im thinking

When a few of us on a simple website can come up with the idea of how the Avs getting Jones is a little too perfect, and seems to fit...

The notion that it isn't possible that someone else who may have influencial powers cant think of the same...

Society accepts things far too often these days, trusts those in power too often. History points the other way.

They can still trade Sastny, he's only 27 and he's got one year left on his deal. The cap hit is unwieldy, but Colorado has little issue with cap room

Jones first got into hockey when his dad played for the Nuggets. In fact his dad approached Joe Sakic and asked him the best way to get his kid involved & on the right track.

Yes, the NHL sat down and figured that getting Seth Jones on his "Hometown" team was vital, so we'll jury rig the lottery to ensure it happens.

No chance in Hell that the team with the second best chance at the lottery won it. That could never happen without strings being pulled.

Exactly. they had a documentary on this.

this is why Colorado will choose Jones 1st overall, but SHOULD choose MacKinnon
MacKinnon had 2, 2 hattricks in 4 games played... against the best there is in the CHL!!
He had 7G and 6A for 13P in 4 GP... over 3 PPG...
kid is absolutely fantastic. i get revved up talking about him because he's really (frank)ing good!

That's why I was thinking it so perfect that COL won the 1st overall. Doesn't make me or nutter conspiracy nuts, just means that I've noticed this, it makes sense that someone might bend the lottery to go that way, and the NHL lottery doesn't really carry the good reputation of being totally clean and fairly done. It doesn't necessarily carry a reputation of being unfair. It isn't widely-known as being rigged, but it just doesn't seem unriggable, is the right term I guess It seems entirely feasible that those with money and power in Colorado might try to make this happen. Jones is best for them positionally, and he is awesome for their market, being a home-town kid. Even if Mackinnon ends up being the next Stamkos, Jones will still sell more tickets in COL, even if he isn't as good as Mackinnon.

Sure both are possible. It's also likely that if Florida won they'd pick MacKinnon anyhow, since they have several excellent young defensemen in their system now.

So why "fix" it? If you're going to tamper, tamper to get a star attraction into Phoenix, where the market is in danger of being lost.

Yes, it's a nice coincidence, but it's also very likely that Florida picking first takes MacKinon anyhow.
