let zidlicky walk, buyout a-train, and tallinder, trade Larsson to someone in the top 15 and draft 2 of either Monahan, shinkurk or rychel. let the best 3 young defenseman play with Salvador, fayne and greene. enough of waiting 3 plus years at Albany for players to get seasoning, bruins are playing 3 rookie defenseman right now, does seem to be a problem, and if my memory is correct the 2000 team played with rookie defensemen white and rafalski, I seem to remember that team doing pretty good? also guys stop drinking the kool -aid Larsson will never be anything more than a 5th or 6th defenseman, move him now while he has value. |

Do you know how hold Rafalski was when he broke into the league? And you are calling Larsson a bust at 20? He's put up similar numbers and has a fairly similar game to marc staal. I don't see how developing into a Marc Staal type player is a bust. |

Streit would be interesting, although he's up in there in age too. He should be more reliable than Zid. |

Exactly. Rafalski was 27 when we signed him and turned 28 before the season started because he played in Europe like Tim Thomas, before they came to the NHL. And White was 22ish when he got a spot on the team and played in the minors for 2 full seasons. And he played in the QMJL so he didn't have to change going forward, whereas Larsson played in Europe and had to change because of the smaller ice. I honestly think he hasn't been given enough ice time to develop into the player that he could be because Zid was always on the PP or PK. I don't remember Larsson being on the PK at all. |

Larsson had 1:08 pk time a game. Zid had 0:11. I think the lack of PP time is that they did not want to overwhelm him and they'd rather develop his defensive game develop first. |

True. I couldn't remember. Been a long time without a game. I would imagine that would change come next season though, hopefully. And no to signing Zid. I would rather have Larsson and one of the other 3 (Urbom, Gelinas, Merill) get time or a chance to prove their worth. |

Gelinas over zidlicky, volchenkov, is addition by subtraction. Even throw tallinder in there, unfortunately. Zidlicky is a liability- more goals against than for.. Singlehanded. Volchenkov gets beat and turns it over but he's at least positionally sound, unless beat.. Which isn't rare. Start gelinas. Let zid go. Dump one of tall/volch. We need to improve on d. I'm happy with Greene, Larsson, Salvador, gelinas, fayne.. One of tallinder or volchenkov. But I'd love to pick up a hainsey or Streit. If we could sign a legit #3 to replace either tal/volch we'd be set. I'd be confident. Fayne-gelinas would make a good 15 min/night 3rd pair. |

For 2 years, he'd be far worth the gamble. Hes no worse than rafalski was in his end, maybe better on the boards. Streit will be targeted by half the league, but islanders hav no reason to let him go. He'll prob stay there. By I'd love him next to Salvador. What a perfect match. |

I read something on twitter where Lou said he would love to have him back.
I don't think that we should hand the PP duties to Gelinas right away. I would say Greene and or Harrold also Larrson. Get Gelinas playing in his own end before PP like Larsson.
Trade Tallinder for a bag of pucks retain some salary I don't care just get him out. Leave Volchenkov and Sal this year and if they are trash again buy them out.
Bernier if he is still available next year or at like the deadline then I would be interested if the price is right. |

NJ's defensemen has been playing great D this year; it's just that your +/- looks bad if you score no goals, which has been the case. The only dman that doesn't play great d is Zidlicky and Salvador's numbers suffered because he was Zid's partner. Even Tallinder wasn't terrible this year.
If they bring Zid back, they canNOT play him first pairing or first PP q-back... they need someone else for that role and Zid can play diminished. But he's not a first pairing and I'm wondering if Salvador is really good enough for first pairing either. I'm guessing Greene and Larsson might assume first pairing this year... |

If Zid isn't running the PP, he's basically useless. The only reason to bring him back is if we don't have an option to run the PP, but even before FA, I think its hard to argue that we don't already have a better option. |

They have to let him walk. He's a fine player but Urbom has spent three whole years paying his dues in the AHL. He's earned his shot on the big club. Not to mention Merrill could potentially compete for a spot on the roster in training camp. With us tied down to Volchenkov, Salvador, and Tallinder's contracts, we don't have any wiggle room to get our young guys the time they deserve with Zidlicky coming back. No hard feelings, we just do not have room on the roster. |

Larry Brooks article is a must read for teams with a long term front loaded contract on their hands. Devils may be screwed in the entire decade of the 2020's if they don't amnesty Kovalchuk.

the NY Post is not making up the fact that there are new cap re-capture penalties in the new CBA, just get a copy online and read it. |
