Why would Savard do that? If he stays on LTIR he gets 100% of his salary. Also, if he decided to retire he would get nothing as he would be retired.
- Stalemate

not if he took the buyout THEN retired.

but yeah.. the bruins would have to talk him into only taking 2/3rds of his remaining salary

just saying its not impossible. it would be one of those "wink wink" situations where Jacobs mysteriously buys a house and gives it to a retired player no long affiliated with the NHLPA type thing.

If he gets bought out, he jumps almost to #1 on my UFA target list. Put him in a situation to succeed and stay healthy and he could be a real gem.

He's probably not the partner for Dion we need (shoots left, can't log huge minutes anymore), but he would look great as a 3/4.

- Leeman4Gilmour

the problem is that they style of play that allows him to be effective is also the style that leads to injuries. if he's not blocking shots and hitting people, he's pretty much useless.....

putting him in a situation to "stay healthy" would mean that he'd be useless

Yeah, I don't mind if they hold on to him for one more season as I'd hate to see him go...I just don't think he'll ever become the player that justifies that huge contract...
- Flyfreaky

5.5 million = 50 point player

what people seem to not realize is 5.5 million is not a huge contract.

its pretty much the norm for a 50-60 point guy

and i do think grabo is that kind of guy.. give him some good linemates and an offensive role.. he will put up points.. carlyle took a gamble on grabo hoping he could become a strong two way guy.... it didnt work.. put him back in an offensive role and call it a day

He's logged way too many minutes in New Jersey carrying the load.

It's not impossible to play effective defense and stay healthy. Many players have had long careers playing Volchenkov's style. The guy is only 31.

But he's not going to give you 25 minutes a night. At 19-20? I'd take the chance without a doubt.

people who are ready to toss grabo out are the same people who said kadri was a bust after his first 40 games in the AHL

nobody has patience anymore. sometimes you just got to let a guy go through a funk

RC makes him a checking center, thats not Grabovski's fault, play him in another role and he gets 50 points

I'd be fine letting Grabo show his stuff for one more year, but not if it hinders us from making a clear upgrade.

We need a Clarkson/Horton/Clowe type, a top 4 d-man, and MAYBE a #1 center if one becomes available (Kesler, Thornton, Stastny) for the right price. A grinder/pest might be nice to replace Komarov if he walks.

Clutterbuck is a dream, but here's to hoping.

I'm not sure you can accomplish all of that (or any of that) with Grabo's 5.5 on the books.

its absolutely shocking how many dont get this

90% of his draws this year were in the defensive zone against opposition top lines

grabo is a offensive centre.. i know carlyle hoped he could be a checking centre but its simply not who he is.

how about not putting grabovski with 3rd liners and see what happens..funny he was good with JVR before lupul got hurt..

all we gotta do is add clarkson, remove mac and bozak, add a top 3 D and were set.

again, im fond of giving this a whirl next season...
