I'm not disagreeing with you. If you re-sign Clowe, sign a guy like Torres to a reasonable deal, with Dorsett, does that do it for you? And it would be real nice if McIlrath could make this team someday.

Only thing with him is if he as a stellar camp, where does he go if everyone is healthy? Maybe Staal for Skinner isn't looking so awful now.....

That was the exact issue after the Flyers swept the Rangers in 1995. They traded Zubov and Nedved to Pittsburgh for Robitaille and Ulf Samuelsson, to try and get tougher and meaner. Gong!

Getting rid of Zubov was one of the worst trades in Rangers history.

- MidnightMarauder

I highly doubt Sather or whoever replaces him is going make any kneejerk trades, but DZ is no Zubov so we should take the chance, I'm onboard with getting Yandle, now do we revisit the Staal for Skinner talk?

Guy Carboneau is a good coach, but he is going to play Torts hockey for the most part. I would really like a change in style.
- Pete V

Torts style has at least had some success. I despise him and his I invented hockey sturboness. I would think if Carbo got another shot he would be able to havea little adaptability that Torts doesn't have. Just a thought.
And wtf you think happened to Bobby Francis. Growing up in hockey having moderate success as young coach Nefertiti to be heard from again is weird.

I think it is a good thought. I think Carbo is a very good coach, and will be successful in the league again, but personally, I need to see this team play with some pace. I just want a more entertaining team.

Do they have the players to do that?

And we have the players to do it if we wanted with minor tweaks...Nash Cally Hags Kreider Brassard Stepan Miller and Zucc can all play in a system with more pace. Boyle, Dorsett, and Asham are fine for a 4th line in that system as well. Puck in deep, grind em down. Gee Wiz, thats 11 of 12 forwards So not much turnover needed. Im 100% with you pete.

Do they have the players to play wideopen firewagon hockey? Probably not. Do they have players the players necessary to open things up a little, and stop collapsing in their own zone, blocking shots, not covering the points, and letting the other team possess the puck for 65% of the game? Yes.

And, on another note, MacKenzie chimes in on Torts.

The one thing I will say is that there are some question marks in that group, and perhaps not enough finish.

Hags will probably be a career 20 goal type guy.
Kreider? Who knows with him.
Miller is still young, and a question mark.
Zucc has never been a really big goal guy.

The Gaborik trade cost them some finish on the front-line, and I think they need to replace some of that from outside the organization this summer, if possible. Even if it means one of the young guys getting traded in a deal for a more established goal scorer.

I hope Dylan McIlrath starts to pan out a bit.

Right now he seems a lot more like Eric Cairns or Dale Purinton than he does Jeff Beukeboom.

Yeah, and do you think the Rangers would love to have Cam Fowler on the PP right now? McIlrath may still turnout to be a good player, but that pick was just dumb, and we all knew it at the time.

Including the playoffs, Fowler has played 208 NHL games now. McIlrath ZERO.

Although the Ducks re-signed Fowler to a ridiculous new contract.

That contract is crazy. And, I am not saying that Fowler is perfect. Bad +/- numbers, and didn't have a great offensive year. But still, that was the pick.

And, there is no way that Slats would have given him that contract. He would be making less than Del Zotto.

My theory you vigorously oppose is based mostly on the last 3 cup winners. It just seems that the rangers, more so then other teams , are easy to play against. Those cup teams just outwilled and outlasted the opponent. Our better players are on the smaller side. Nash really doesn't and isn't expected to use his size, like say lucic is. So it's hard to expect them, over 4 intense rough and tumble series', to outlast these bigger teams with the current roster that is constituted. They are very soft and that is the only point I'm making

Agreed. And agreed we cant play fire wagon Penguin hockey. But an up tempo offense like the Sharks or Kings isnt crazy. And yes they are question marks but I want to see how a new coach utilizies their skills to see if they can shine. And in terms of a trad who is available? Bobby Ryan?

Also, we need to trade Skej for a first this year. A team that needs a D prospect and doesnt like what they see on the clock. Or trade him for someone else's Forward prospect or something. If someone wants Mcilrath he can be traded too. The above 4 I want to see what they do in a new system.

On Clowe, I think Clowe is exactly the type of player that TJ is talking about, and I really like the guy, but not for what he is rumored to be asking. Big, tough skilled guys are hard to find at reasonable rates.

the Rangers were interested in trading for Valtteri Filppula, he is a UFA

Like the player dont like the terms...For pretty much any UFA this summer. It is a weak UFA class so people will be over paid and I dont want to be a team that does. Rather let the kids fill the spots and make a trade or two.

Shot in the dark and I have done zero research but any chance Columbus buys out Dubinski he hits the market. I would go 2.5 to 3 for him.

On a reasonable deal, yes. I just don't think there is a reasonable deal to be had with him, because I think by year 4 of any deal he is going to look like he is skating with a refrigerator on his back.

I'll take that deal right now for him. He is better than most people think.
