I don't want to come off as trying to pile on here...

But when a PP struggles this bad and receives as much negative press as this one has lately, why does this guy keep getting thrown out there to QB it? It makes no sense. I've heard it mentioned here and it's so true, this team need a true PP Dman badly.

PS. No way no how Pit brings him in.

I dont know if you saw us compare Torts to Rex Ryan bt lets jsut say the comparisson probably goes further... (ironically both with the QB position). Torts probably has tattoo of hs wife in a TB Richards jersey somewhere on is body

rangers are getting beat the same way the got beat last year against the devils. they have no answers for the 4th line. last year it was carter, bernier and gionta, this year its pallie, thorton and Kelly.
- devfan30

Campbell not Kelly and yes that is exactly what is happening this round. Depth players are killing them but unlike last year the Rangers are beating themselves in this series. Last year Jersey just dominated every game in last year's series, Hank was just able to steal two games against Jersey. This year, while he was great last night, he seems unable to carry this team to a win against Boston.

Good post. But, I think the difference between the Staal situation and the Malkin situation is that the Hurricanes knew that Staal would sign with the Canes and, therefore, were willing to give up good assets to get a deal done a year early. With Malkin, I don't think any team is going to give up the earth, the stars, and the sun to trade for him unless they have some assurances that he will sign with them.

I know that New York has always been a major draw for Russian players. I also know that the Rangers will have the space to pursue him next year if they let Richard's go. I also know that the Penguins and Rangers aren't opposed to dealing with one another, in that they almost a completed a deal for Jordan Staal (so, even a trade between the two is possible, but not at full Malkin value, as he will be a UFA).

My personal feeling is this. If Malkin doesn't re-sign with the Penguins, if he really wants to be the head hauncho on a team, the Rangers will be his landing spot, IMO.

Can't argue with your point about Staal, that's dead on.

My counter however is that talent-wise, Malkin isn't Staal. A top 5 player in the league will fetch a handsome regardless of term left on his contract. The difference between the Staal deal and this one would be that I assume potential destinations are allowed to talk extension with him prior to a deal.

Also, deal between the Rangers and Pens have never included a game changer like this. Hence why i think even if he's dealt, it's not to a team that can them as much as a divisional foe.

What's th chances Gretzky was in town last night for more than just catching a hockey game anyway?

I agree but the Rangers might give him one more year before they buy him out. I don't think they cut him loose this summer. You are right though, he is a bigger thief than Jesse James.
- MidnightMarauder

He should pull a Kevin Durant, an donate $1 million to storm relief or some other worth cause. At least that would make everyone feel a little better about the money he is getting paid to play Arron Asham like minutes in the year's biggest games. Brad Richards is good guy, but man, what a terrible year.

This is my biggest point of contention with Tortorella, his refusal to adjust the power play units, when things are clearly not working.

He has no problem changing forward lines, every other period, but he keeps throwing the same stale unit out there, over and over. It's clear he and Sullivan put zero importance on the power play.

I wasn't particularly impressed with the job he did in Phoenix. Personally, I think the Rangers situation is such that they shouldn't limit themselves in a coaching search by any constraints. If the salary cap limits the amount you can spend on players, then use your money to try to lure the best damn coach out there, even if he happens to be coaching another team right now. They need to be bold with this one.

I wouldn't mind buying out Richards and stashing away the money till the right opportunity presents itself and throw out a REALLY young team next year and see what happens.

Top 9: Hags, Step, Cally, Nash, Brassard, Kreider, Zuuc, Miller, Lindberg/Fast

Which leaves a solid Asham, Boyle, Dorsett 4th line.

That with the young D we have means our only means of a "window" is Hank's age. But he looks so dominant I think we will be ok for a few years. If those young guys grab the reigns we could grow into a real good team with lost of cap space to make a proper splash when the right chance comes along. Because just look at the 2014 UFA list.

There are areas in Staten Island, stil reeling from last fall's hurricane. Richards wants to deflect some heat, that would be a real good way, to do just that. I hate piling on a player, who obviously cares and seems like a good guy, but dammit I would rather he be a wiener and be the player I thought they were getting in the summer of 2011.

I feel a bit of the opposite (I think). I don't need to chase a recycled name that has won something (Paul Maurice, Lavi if made available, Ruff).

I wouldn't mind grabbing some hot shot CHL coach and give him a shot if he's proven to win at that level for instance.

Two of those three are our current third line. That should tell you all you need to know about this team

If Tortorella does get fired, the Rangers need to tread carefully on who becomes their next coach. No Messier, no Gretzky and please god no Lindy Ruff. They need to look at the well regarded assistant coaches around the league or some coaching talent in the AHL.

Someone who doesn't have an ego, has an open mind and is not a stubborn mule. I don't have any coaches in mind but I want to see a fresh face behind the bench, if Tortorella is to get fired.

Exactly. But if Miller, Krieder, and one of Fast or Lindberg can be Top 9 plays for this team I say hand over he team to the kids and try it. We'd have no top forwards over 30 on the team and a lot under 25. No one wants to hear that but who exactly are you going to get to fill those roles? I'd rather let that play out and bring in a coach to develop that group.

I just had a crazy vision of them firing Torts today and putting Gretzky behind the bench tomorrow.
