Anybody who is not an Islander fan knows zero about Capuano's coaching abilities. As for "what he does" what is it that he does?
- Cptmjl

there was talk of his preparation & teaching, his examining of game tapes, his system that the players have seemed to have bought into....

If that was his system then I'll buy into it eventually too. I still feel the team played the way it did in spite of him and his coaching decisions are beyond moronic at times.

Coached them to the playoffs...

Players like playing for him...

Second winningest coach in franchise history...

If you listened during the playoffs.. Anyone not an Islander fan was singing his praises for the things he does.

Anyone not an Islanders fan doesn't even know how to pronounce "Joensuu"...I wouldn't put much stock in anything they say. They were just trying to find some reason...any reason...to explain the Islanders. "Must be the coach" is an easy out for them.

Second winningest coach isn't much of an accomplishment when you look at the competition...the only good coaches were here for a cup of coffee. But man, I'm shocked he was able to surpass the brilliant hockey mind that is Steve Stirling

I do agree that he seems well-liked. And I give him credit for finding a message that the players bought into. He's an awful in-game coach though, and his instincts aren't much better. This is the guy who was positive Reasoner was going to justify his spot in the lineup for game 1. The only thing of note he did was try to knee-on-knee someone...and he couldn't even do that right.

Worst coach ever? Nah, he rises above that on the strength of his motivation skills. But worthy of a defense from X for keeping his job? Nope.

Dude.. you wont get any argument from me.. he could end up being one of the greatest coaches of all time... but there is just something about him that makes me prefer the team was run by someone else... but we aren't in the locker room & something that he is doing is working.

Hey.. like I said already, Id rather someone else was coach & Im not talking Doug Weight... but the reasons i mentioned are some of the reasons he will not only be resigned but for multiple years. The man succeed where everyone including the fans of this team KNEW he would fail... but he didn't fail. That's just the fact of the matter.

I actually wouldn't mind weight. He's got a couple years under his belt. I like the way he holds players accountable. Weight may be leaving for head coaching job somewhere else, maybe somewhere real close to us?

Nore do I, he completely under utilizes him & he seems to have it out for him, with his double standards. Guys can be playing bad for multiple games and get the same icetime, Gremlin get his ice time shaved for god knows what reason.

I forgot who we played but Grabner had the game winning goal and was a beast the entire game. Thompson was almost critical of him in his interview and Capuano just shrugged off any question about Grabner. It was completely obvious he's got some beef with him.

Best case scenario . In all seriousness I can see him going to the Rags. Torts seems to have fallen out of favor, Dreger tweeted if they don't get past the second round he's gone. Guy is usually pretty spot on and they aren't making it past Boston.

Dougie back with the team that drafted him... Ironic.

I still remember that year they drafted Weight, Amonte & Rice

Between his management of line matchups and oddball lineup decisions, my biggest concern with Cappy is that his instincts seem highly questionable, yet he constently coaches on a hunch. From decisions on Grabner and Reasoner, to his need for a good cop, bad cop partner like Weight, I worry that he's a terrible coach who rode a good team to a decent season. I want him to do it again before we make a multi year commitment.

He just missed winning a cup with that team. He's been in the league for a while and he will be in it for quite a while longer if you ask me. It was a good thing when he came to the Islanders. I figured he'd be the Isles next coach after last season and I wasn't too excited about the idea honestly but between last season and this season I think he's going to make a good coach. I'd be upset if he left but would still be happy for the guy if he did well elsewhere. BTW I don't think they drafted Amonte the same year and who is Rice?

Anybody think there is a chance Lundqvist gets tired of playing for the Rangers and signs with the Brooklyn bound Isles after next year? Man that would be dandy.
Not gonna happen though, I think he is a lifelong Ranger. The guy is all heart but somehow I have to think he is getting sick of putting up huge efforts only to lose because of the lack of heart by some of his teammates. He could sign with the Isles and not have to leave his current Manhattan apartment.

Nah, Lundqvist is the Rangers. He loves it there, and the team would probably move a mountain or two to keep him happy. He seems too classy to do so, but I bet if he said, "Me or Torts, choose," Torts would be gone before he even finished that sentence.
