Redden had 2 years left when bought out...looks like times are changing
- senstroll

try a year and half.. they only were on the hook for half his salary this season

so yeah.. different circumstances

Question: how does draft position work for playoff teams? Is it where you finish during the season or is it when you get eliminated in the playoffs?

So you think if it was a full year salary they would have kept him?
that was the deciding factor?

for one.. his salary this year.. still on the cap

next year's salary is the only one that wont be

also.. NY was, and still is, in a tough spot

What do you guys think... is Rielly better off to go back to junior or play with the big club, I personally think he should go back to junior and request a trade to a contending team for the year..
- Lindross_88

Junior for sure, would be nice to make up for the year he missed, doesn't really look like he ready for a spot with the big club either. There is a tonne of depth at D too, Holzer, Blacker, Percy etc

yeah... no way hes traded

Whats everyone's thoughts on andy mcdonald?

- Mapleleafs_91

Why no way...? For the right price, nearly anyone can be traded.

Never mind. Brandon Sutter, Dubinsky.. This type of player would be our most likely upgrade given the pieces we have to offer.

Sutter probably less likely of the three (a lot less)..

A. McDonald would be an option, a beggars number one center maybe...

Iunno hes captain, signed at decent cap, workhorse, not really someone you would want to give up.

Mcdonald could play the wing too, but hes probably too old now for us to have, clarkson/horton/clowe would be a good pickup on the wing

If Nonis wants an experienced backup for Riemer, heres what we have UFA: Backstrom, Nabakov, Smith, Thomas, Sodderstrom and Kabbibulin, in that order IMO. Any interest??

Thomas/Nabakov would be solid back up pick ups, heck even if we can get mike smith to share the roles would be sick but he will cost $$$

Ive said before, I think Nonis will revisit the option of getting an experience goalie for Reimer to back up.
I think he'll test the waters at least.

If we picked up Horton, i'd say keep bozak and try to trade grabovski to STL.

They have a glut of defense, not so much in front.

A. Mcdonald comes off the cap this year too.

Horton Bozak Kessel

JRV Kadri Lupul

Kulemin Colborne Frattin

Maybe we trade Grabo and Gunnarsson for the rights to Shattenkirk...

Not too old in life, just too old for the leafs.
IF we are going to get a 30 + year old center....I say go after Joe Thornton. He's a little slower, but would be good for Kessel and Lupul.

Im thinkin Thomas. We can have a Nice Young Goalie that's great with the Media and Fans, and an Old A$$hole with playoff experience. Should balance nicely....

Nah, we dont really need Horton....not immediately. A center and a top 3 Dman is what we really need.

St. Louis doesnt want to take on Salary they have 4 restricted free agents they need to sign this summer. If anything they will want to get rid of some more salary so add possibly Halak or Elliott as a possible candiate to tandem with Reimer.

Both Redden and Gomez has 2 years left on their contracts.

So I will have to disagree on that. No matter how you want to say its 1 year
