To ride the pine in a crucial game, I would say so....CBO candidate?

fair enough. i just meant like would it be worth it to go through the buyout of bryz and then give up assets for him in your eyes

We wouldn't have to give that much, but no i dont see us doing that. We already have a 24 year old goalie. We need a veteran tendy to back up mason and mentor him to help improve his game

This might give some estimation of potential cost:

A. Lindbäck + K. Wilson + 7th <--> 2nd + 2nd + 3rd
B. Bishop <--> C. Conacher + 4th
J. Halak <--> L. Eller + I. Schultz
S. Mason <--> Leighton + 3rd
C. Anderson <--> B. Elliott
K. Lehtonen <--> I. Vishnevskiy + 4th
S. Bobrovsky <--> 2nd + 4th + 4th
S. Varlamov <--> 1st + 2nd
T. Rask <--> A. Raycroft

I'm basing my prediction off past rumors, where the Kings were supposedly demanding a Varlamov type return for Bernier.

Actually, your "comparison" was pretty poor too. A loaf of bread (avg.) was actually less in 2011 than it is now. So, yes, you can indeed buy a loaf of bread now for what you paid in 2012 and have a dime left over for some gumballs. Just sayin' ...(you know, facts and all).

- exlund

Just to let you know! Your chart only shows what a loaf of bread costs in Sept of 2012. It is currently May of 2013. So you again failed. And you're also wrong about a loaf of bread being actually less then in 2011 then it is now, if now is 2012 LOL, according to your chart. It cost more in 2011 then 2012 according to the chart you provided. Just sayin'. So do you want to continue to argue the cost of a loaf of bread, or the real point that was made? It was an off the top of my head example to illustrate inflation. But regardless the point that was made was obvious. Player salaries escalate. What was market value for a player in 2011 is not the same in 2013.

true. greater commitment could help most any team. im just saying that i think that a better puck mover than what the flyers currently have would go a longggg way towards curing ills on both sides of the puck
- stayinthefnnet

You're absolutely right. The Flyers need to add that better puck moving element to the team, regardless of how committed the team get's to playing better team defense. And we want defenseman that can pass the puck quickly and efficiently. Which is preferred to a defenseman skating the puck out. The Flyers currently don't have that element. It was an element that they lost when Carle left, and Pronger got hurt. I think Gustafsson can help in that area. But they need to add a high minute player who can bring that element.

Kings don't have a single Selke level Forward. They have a lot of Forwards who are very responsible defensively. And they are committed to playing well defensively. And it started with Terry Murray who demanded it. And it continues under Sutter.

I guess you've never heard of Anze Kopitar.

have you ever heard of Bergeron and Toews? They are dominant defensively. They are Selke level players. Read the rest of the thread. Kopitar is a very good defensive forward. But he is not on the level of Toews and Bergeron, who are by far the best defensive forwards in the League, in my opinion. Kopitar is not on their level, in my opinion. And therefore, isn't going to win the Selke Trophy this year. Maybe in the future.

That's like saying Giroux isn't a franchise player because he's not as good as Sidney Crosby.

Not true at all. Giroux is the best player on the Flyers, and is the player that the Organization is building it's future around. That's what makes him a franchise player.

The proper context of comparison, as it relates to the Selke award discussion, would be who's the best player in the League. And in that context, Giroux is not equal to Crosby. Although Giroux would likely make the list, if there was a vote.

In order to win the Selke trophy, you have to be considered the best under the parameters of the award. And although Kopitar is certainly among the upper echelon as a defensive forward. In my opinion he is not on the level of Bergeron and Toews.

to be fair, you said the kings dont have a selke level player on their team.

who are the selke level players - only bergeron and toews?
