how would you create the roster for next season, if vanek and miller are gone?

serious question, and assume no big additions

Pull an Edmonton and get my ass in serious running for Connor McDavid in two years.

You can only realistically trade one. Probably Miller. Vanek is a keeper for the short term. If the Sabres have early success he signs an extension. It makes too much sense to keep him for no other reason than he makes the Hodgson trade look like a great move.

I'm not talking about it like it's some big deal. I'm just saying there is a floor that we have to maintain and there is a cap that other teams have to maintain. Consider how close to the cap a contender might be and how close to the floor we are, it makes perfect sense for us to some salary back.
- Sabresfan-365

What are you talking about??? The sabres are almost at the cap ceiling? With the signing of Hodgson, Weber, Enroth the sabres will be close to the ceiling not floor.....

I know this wasn't directed at me but I'm bored so....

Add Armia to the forwards and McNabb to the D. I will assume we will get a roster player back in either deal for Miller and Vanek so with that in mind:

Forwards: Armia, Grigorenko, Hodgson, Ennis, Foligno, player via trade (Miller), player via trade (Vanek) , ott, kaleta, Flynn, Tropp, minor FA signing/player recieved for stafford, Adam.

Defense: Myers, Ehrhoff, Sekera, Weber, Ruhwedel, Pysyk, McNabb

Goalies: Enroth/goalie from trade, Hackett

I know this team will probably suck big time but if we can't acquire the talent through trade, FA or moving up in this draft then this is our next best option. Adding a guy like Reinhart or Ekblad in 2014 would give us the franchise guy we need. After that it's just waiting for the kids to develop.

Trading Miller and Vanek and stafford free's up 17 mil in cap space...Hodgson, Weber and Enroth will cost something like 7 mil max.

The resigning of John Scott to play 4th line min is the least of Buffalos worries.

Hodgson will get 3.5-5 mil per depending on contract length.
Enroth 2.5
Weber in the 1.5-2 range.

touche sir. touche. The volume is louder now I suppose? Plus people will want them to be bad (which is fine) and still boo them when they offer a terrible product on the ice.

Plus Flynn and Tropp is probably another 2.5-3m salary.

Thats 10m there. If Armia makes the team....ect ect

The sabres will be far from the cap floor....

Miller for Hartnell and Briere.

Vanek+8+16 to move up in the draft.

Trade Stafford for a 2nd. Or a certain KHL threat prospect from Washington.

Since we aren't winning the cup next year he will at least provide some entertainment. He also seems to be sort of a mentor on the ice to the younger guys. No so much for goal scoring but on how to handle yourself when poop gets crazy out there.

Cody will get a 2 yr bridge gap contract like Duchene 3.5 per or Darcy will go full on max length at 5 per taking him to the age of 31.
