Sabres re sign John Scott to a one year deal

BTW, what happened in the past two months since I've been gone? Lol

- Sabres2012CUP

Besides when he kicked the crap outta Thornton (which was awesome!) he was pretty useless IMO...
We're gonna suck next year anyways though,
So bringing him back doesn't really matter much one way or the other I guess
I don't think he was very effective in preventing teams from taking runs at guys like Gerbe & Ennis though
There just aren't many guys that'll actually fight him
And since he can't skate or even pass,
I just don't see how useful he really is

But like i said, whatever... We've got bigger issues to deal with

Darcy can cross re-signing Scott off the list. Next up: coaxing Hecht out of retirement.

I said in a package of some sort. Prospect(s) or players would be coming back our way. Its going to take more than Vanek for #4 overall. They need a top center, and more scoring depth. I would target Ryan Ellis, Mattias Ekholm, and possibly Craig Smith as pieces coming back.
- theblueandgold

Maybe I didn't make my point clear enough
I think the package it would take would be much more than I'm willing to give up
They would want Vanek + bc he could walk after this year
It'd make more sense to me to trade Vanek in a deal that gets us multiple assets like the Pominville deal...
Moving up is just going to cost too much

If all we can do is Vanek for a 1st +++
And Miller for a 1st +++

That would give us FOUR #1s this year...
That's how you "re-build"

We take Nichuskin with one of those picks if he drops far enough (I do think he'll drop)... He could end up being the best value in the draft

Then we still get 3 other pieces that should add really nicely to the group we currently have

we need elite talent. i dont care which type. heart and guts is easier to find than elite scoring ability.

I would absolutely love having him here but ive said this in the past I dont see Nashville passing on him (trading out) as he fits their team perfectly. There are some other pretyt good power forwards in the draft Id try gettting more mid teen picks. This is where I like a deal with NJ or Filty
- hubie

True,
Makes sense to me
There will be a handful of teams bidding on Miller,
And everyone w caproom will want Vanek

The awesome thing about the new collective bargaining agreement is that we can agree to pay part of their salary & reduce the cap hit, making them even more attractive to teams out there
Some say we won't get a good return, but I disagree... I think we'll get a ton back & be very happy

You thought last years draft was fun?
This one will be epic... I'm taking off work for it n having a party at my house!
Hahaha

I HOpe Im wrong but id say as far away from him as humanly possible. There are guys id prefer to take with my picks. We dont know what we will have in armia he could be the scorer we have longed to need

edit: I also like for NHLers kids they always seem to know how to "act" the part and work out in the end.

I have a feeling people are going to be really upset when we get another first and stock pile a bunch of talent. Problem with most of the guys is that they will be a year away atleast and nobody wants to wait around for people to develope. I just hope we are bad enough for the next two years.

Id like Zach Furcale with one of the 2nds if we keep them I think hes played himself out of the first in the memorial cup.

Re: cap floor

Sign Jerome Iginla for $12M one year. Tell him you will trade him to a Stanley Cup contender at the deadline- pick up more draft picks.

I think that's where I disagree. Mackinnon not only has that it factor and talent, he's got the grit and defense to go with it. The thing with Barkov is he comes off as a physical dynamic presence but a lot of these europeans have difficulties bringing that game consistently at the NHL level.
- Sabresfan-365

I see your point,
Agree to disagree...
Time will tell I guess

I do think all in the top4 will be at least good players, I'd be happy w any of them!
Galchenyuk was my guy last year...
Barkov happens to be a guy I particularly like this draft

Yep.

Tropp needs to accept his qualifying offer.

- Sabresfan-365

I agree, but Philly will need to do a few things to get/stay under the cap.

I hear ya...
But if we have FOUR 1sts?
Then I'd take a shot on him w one of the picks should he fall far enough
Guys like Malkin aren't described as "heart & guts" types...
And my fav guys in the league are players like Brown, Callahan, etc
But sometimes you gotta role the dice and look at a guys ceiling
If we only had one 1st, no way I'd do it
But with four, I'd take that risk, especially if it were somewhere in the late-teens or early20s

I dont see him getting to our Minny pick, I just dont want to be the one who takes him is all. But if he somehow got to 20 then id have to wonder why cause that far has to be more than the khl factor.

Malkin dose a lot of things that drive me nuts but hes such an elite scorer that it washs away all the bad thigns he does.

Nobody ever brings him up, but we have anothe goalie prospect in Ullmark who has potential as well
Sabresprospects.com has him rated HIGHER than Makarov for what it's worth
I like having them as a future back-up plan should we not be able to adequately replace Miller in the next two years
Bernier is a guy I talk about every other day on here...
Id love to let him, Enroth & Hackett all battle it out like Miller, Biron & Norronen did
Chance are at least one of them would work out?!

I honestly dont see where Tropp fits in this roster. He's a big tough kid who can make a nice hit and work the puck along the boards. He's only going to be good for 8-12 goals in an 82 game season. How many of those guys can be on one roster?

I'd Take him cause you can never have to many top flight goalies coming up as 1 or more could become great trade bait or a franchise starter.

I think Bernier is very over rated
I agree let Enroth and Hackett split duties
