That one needed a ten minute rule I noticed and said to myself, "oh shat, I was ridiculously excited when we got Peca and even Yashin(admittadely, still like him honestly)and the guy obviously wanted to win"

MM was only GM of the Islanders for 5 seasons under Wang, where his team made the playoffs 3 of those 5 years. While under Wang's ownership MM's teams showed progress. It is not a stretch to say that Wang did the right thing keeping him as long as he did & that he got rid of him at the right time as well.

MM should have been fired at the 2000 draft the minute he traded Luongo and Jokinen for Parrish and Kvasha. I get your point, but part of the reason MM was kept in place was probably because Wang knew nothing about hockey and probably knew of nobody else to bring in to replace Milbury before the move was actually made. Wang came into the sport a complete novice, he knew nothing and nobody.

Of all the bad trades MM made, and there were tons of them, the follies on draft day 2000 were deplorable and inexcusable. At least rational arguments can be made to justify some of the other deals (budget constraints, need for impact players, etc.) but the moves on draft day 2000 were the result of horribly bad talent evaluation and impatience.

We were all considered a buch of drunking, classless hooligans during the playoffs we might as well live up to that. Not saying that X fits this description but it is funny how him signing his name at the bottom infuriates people

I cursed the moment I got home from Virginia that day and had a message from my brother (A Flyer fan) on my machine...it was just him laughing. THat's when I found out Luongo was dealt away. I was devastated. That said, I do understand what Milbury's train of thought was at that time..which I've posted before, but I'll do again because I love the look of my own arial font

Milbury was very big on following the blueprint of the New Jersey Devils. He wanted to change the team over to a full out trap team. The thing that made Jersey's trapping better than other teams was Broduer's ability to move the puck. When you clog up the neutral zone, other teams must dump the puck to establish a forecheck. If you have a fast athletic goaltender capable of passing the puck, he can retrieve the dump in and create transitiion.
Luongo for all the wonderful things he was projected to be was one of the worst goalies there were at actually handling the puck. So Milbury, in his own insane sort of way, dealt away a franchise goaltender, for what he thought was another franchise goaltender capable of playing in the only system that was consistently winniing during the clutch and grab era. Unfortunately for MM, the rule changes of 2004 changed the league and that vision went to crap along with DP's hip.

in hind site that trade was horrendous, at the time it was just bad. Luongo wanted off the island. and he's turned out to be a franchise netminder. Olli was hated by the fans but I believe it was because he wasn't Ziggy Palffy.. i don't remember too many people upset over him leaving till he blossomed a few years later. Parrish avged 43 points a season for us over 5 years so we really did get a good player back with him, Kavasha was projected to be the best player of the 4 players traded... in the end he ended up the worst. Yes it was a horrible trade... but sometimes that happens.

Luongo wanted off LI because of Gluckstern and Milstein f**king Luongo out of $$ by demanding that Milbury demote him so Luongo didn't make enough starts to earn a bonus. Wang could have had a sit-down with him and his agent and convinced him to stay.

As for the rest, maybe I was seeing the future, but I knew the second those deal and picks were made the Isles took a major step back. Kvasha was useless in FLA and he was useless on LI. Parrish was a nice player, but nothing more than a second line winger. Everyone in hockey knew Luongo would be a franchise goaltender and Jokinen was a top three pick, and center to boot. Even at the 2000 draft, anyone with common sense could see the franchise would be better off with Luongo, Heatley, Jokinen rather than RDP, Parrish and Kvasha.
