I can't find Wayne's post, but, and I touched on it earlier, Tortarella's little tactic with Hagelin is about as low of a shot I've seen in all my years of following sports.
If the Rangers lose this series, he should be fired. Immediately. His act is old. Coaches like him win despite them, not because of them. If I owned a team, I wouldn't put up with a coach talking the way he does to the press. I would have fired him a while ago. Your team has a lot of talent, he holds them back, it's obvious. You'd be better off with (frank)ing Avery coaching the team, at least he knows a clown when he sees one. - potvin05
As a NYR fan for 45 years, I agree here with you, except for the one vulgar word, & ex Ranger (in a joke) you mentioned to be the coach.
Torts embarrassed a near 100 year, world class organization on national tv yesterday when answering a Pierre McGuire question, just like he always does regularly at post game & press conferences. He mishandles his player talent as to what their needs & expectations are; which in your words, obviously holds them back.
Despite what his mind game tactic was, instead of criticizing only Hagelin over the past weekend for "stinking on the powerplay", he should have done it to everyone that has played on it. But he couldn't do that, because then that would be him admitting he is the SOLE fault with Sullivan for our horrible powerplay. I didn't even know that Hagelin was the only Ranger skater on the ice during powerplays; although he may appear to be due to his excessive speed, as Torts said was the reason for him stinking on it...REALLY!!! A 2 year old wouldn't say that!!!
If Hagelin were playing under Doug Weight's PP & offensive system with the Islanders, he would probably have at least 10 powerplay goals in an 82 game season on their 2nd PP unit, and 30 to 35 goals overall. He may even have those stats under Capuano alone, and also without Tavares on the ice at the same time, who would of course be on their 1st PP unit! |

I agree and felt the same way during the Caps series. Whether Nash sticks up for himself or Dorsett or Ash does it IDC. Point is you stick up for your teammates, goaltender. Tired of extra whacks at hanks hands and liberties taken on skill players. Need to send that message. If anyone so much as looked at Mess the wrong way Adam Graves was right there to take care of it. Loved that part of that 94 team. - DONMURDOCH14
I think Dorsett was feeling the same way which is why he dropped them with Campbell at the end of game two. I don't think we are intimidated but I do think we need to be more proactive and not tolerate the extra stuff going on. |

I love Hagelin but I really don't see him having the skill to post those numbers. I see him as a 20-goal, maybe 25-goal guy at best in a good season. And there is nothing wrong with that. He has enough ability and hockey sense to play a complementary offensive role in a top-six and I think he can help a PP. He won't be a cure-all for this PP but there is no reason he can't help a PP and score some goals with the man-advantage. I just think you are overrating his offensive skill set a bit. |

Did it shorten Chelios'? - Blueshirts4ever
How many Chris Chelios's have there ever been in the NHL! He lasted longer because of his youthful type abilities for his age, and his All Star career type records he had as a defenseman, who there are many less of as opposed to forwards.

Harsh comments by Maloney. - Pete V
Maloney is the best at speaking the truth. He tells it like it is during the games, and would likely be a good NHL coach if he wanted to pursue that career instead.
Many here should try to access his words spoken from early in this season on the causes of all our woes at that time. It would make a good school textbook on hockey from the players to the coaching staff to the fans. |

rangers shouldn't want to win the cup this year anyway. I thought the rules were winning the Stanley cup in a shorten season doesn't count? |

why are you saying that here? when no one here ever said that about the 95 Cup win, you are being a jerk as usual. |

So, what's the overall mood today on this blog? I've had to stay away until now because of how frustrated the Rangers have made me. |

anybody who doesn't see this as a way to try and motivate Hagelin seriously must have an overall IQ of about 54 - jimbro83
You don't call out a player of any age like Torts did, in any major team sport for whatever tactical reason he had for doing so. The end result could actually be a detriment to that player &/or to his team, who may give up on him as a result.
This was simply Torts directing the PP fault away from him and those other pertinent Rangers, & blaming incorrectly only Hagelin; in responding indirectly to the NHL media now covering only 8 NHL teams, in hearing & reading their talk that the Rangers must finally fix their powerplay to win this series; regardless of the fact that the Bruins also had a poor powerplay this year.
The most stupid part of what Torts said is that Hagelin stinks on the powerplay because of his speed! But if Torts blamed many of the players, he would be admitting that he is the REAL SOLE fault with Sully; because all the players here could not possibly stink on the powerplay, or else we would have the worst record in the NHL, even with Hank here. |

Yeah. But at 4 or 5 -2. Eh, I think a physical tone needs to be set right away tomorrow might. Rangers can't allow themselves to be pushed around at home |

I gotta disagree Jimbo. I''ll say this, it's ok for Tors to call out Hagelin's "dumbness" early in the season for taking a too many men penalty. That is something that doesn't bother me. But to call out Hagelin out because he plays too fast? That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. The whole point of the power play is to be quick. You get the penalty killers moving and that causes them to get tired and make mistakes. That's why the Rangers power play struggles because it looks like it's moving through mud. I have no idea what Torts is trying to do know. Not a clue. |

I think it's obvious that Torts believes saying that publically will make Hagelin want to prove him wrong, it's a way to motivate him, illustrated perfectly by the fact Hagelin was out on the powerplay yesterday.

i think it was more of a timing issue
probs not the best idea to talk about flyers' young forwards immediately after a 5-2 playoff loss
btw, 5-2 lol yesssss |
