Still, taking the family to the game shouldn't cost $500

If you buy from Ticket Master or a scalper then yes. For $500 you can get two rooms and 4 tickets together from Rosedale on Robson (hotel).

Do they not do well attendance wise though I thought they had a larger fan base but maybe that's just because the Devils have such a small one which I never got other then the teams so close to them they have done more then enough to gain fans from outside Jersey as I am not from there and I realise I cant help their attendance but even with Canadians cheering for an American team it seems nj still has a really small fan base which personally I don't understand

Don't know what prices were this season, but 11-12 their avg price was 26th in the NHL at $38.25

To put that in perspective, the NHL avg was $57.10 and the Devils were 22nd at $45.86

Sabres avg. 18,970 a game while the Devils 17,114

do the math and based on those numbers it's roughly...

Devils- About 18.9 million in ticket sales
Sabres- About 17.4 million in ticket sales

it's kind of fishy to me when a team is only bringing in that little money in ticket sales, yet they want to spend with the big boys.

Yea I guess they figure that their owner is rich enough to take a loss to possibly make the team better ? all though not so sure they are all that better since he took over even though he is I guess richer then the last owner

That's why Weber's contract is such a head scratcher. How can nashville pay it without losing their shirts.

I think thats why we did nothing else in the off season. Also, between Suter and Weber we got a really late start. However, they are in better finacial shape thaan the past, had record attendance ( 29 straight sellouts going back to the end of last season) and Bridgestone is a very busy arena for concerts, etc and the Preds make money off of that.

$85 for a tiny seat with some fat drunk wiener nearby?? No thanks. Best seat is in front of the big screen...

I've felt this way for a looong time now. The atmosphere in Rogers Arena is nothing special... In fact, it's pretty depressing. Using that Canuck ticket $ towards a top notch man cave was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

If you want a game day sporting experience that's worth every penny, Century Link is where it's at. SEA!!! HAWKS!!!

They can raise the prices all they want. I didn't spend a dime on them this year and I won't spend another dime on them until I see some wholesale changes with the line-up and the coaching staff.

You know, of the 4 major sports I like basketball the least. However the atmosphere at an NBA game is amazing. Always action, always something going on.

I do have to laugh that ticket prices are still rising. All those no minds on the owners bus saying that it costs to much to attend hockey games and buy apparel etc because the players make to much. Its because of this brain dead theory that we lost a half season this season and a season a decade ago. Keep up the rational thinking guys

Hi Ian, first time poster long time lurker. Unfortunately, the price of anything is always what the buyer is willing to pay. Huge cliche but its true. Applies in other situations too..... see Luongo, Roberto. Unfortunately, Vancouver is a city full of people with a lot of expendable income, in spite of the cost of living here. Ergo, people will throw down more money to have their chance to see the show.... until that show becomes unwatchable (we might not have to wait very long...)

Supply and demand. Isn't there a a long ass waiting list for the season tickets? Sure they might sell a few less single game tickets, but overall this move probably pays off for them and single game ticket prices can always be adjusted in-season. Seems like a no-brainier business move to me.

Yeah I agree for the most part, but I still love to go to the big games(rivalries, exciting teams/players, playoffs, etc.) As long as I can get a good deal though. Totally true that watching a game with some buddies on a nice TV with some beers and good food is just as good and much cheaper. That's why I love Friday and Saturday night games.

But yeah I'd much rather go to an NFL game, no doubt.

I'm sure many teams are raising prices. There's a lockout to pay for and compliance buyouts to be dealt with.

I have to say, the only games i've been to at Rogers arena this year the atmosphere was great. Then again, I only went to 3 premium games (Chi, LA, Game 1) this year and sold the rest. Nothing close to a couple of years ago but much better than at any point last year.

You can feel how unsettled the fans are when at the arena, compared to the build up to the cup run. In order to rectify this, the club is going to need big changes including the coaching staff. Also, the core needs a shakeup.

People can be mad all they want, but as long as the team sells out home games the Canuck's brass won't give a flying f*ck about it.

And that's not just Vancouver, that's any franchise in the NHL, this is a business after all.

It's hard to compare an NFL game with an NHL one. The elimination process is much quicker, and the time between games much longer. People have a whole week to get jacked for the next game, often 2-3 for a home game.

That's true. Every regular season game in the NFL means so much and compare the hype, magnification and excitement of that to one of 82 regular season game sin the NHL and it's probably not a fair comparison, which is exactly why I say that the NFL offers better value per dollar. It's even worse for baseball from that aspect.

Ya, funny how the lockout was the players fault, yet the owners seemed to have got everything they wanted and the prices keep going up.

Yes, they seat 60,000 + vs 16500 +.

Yup, of course that's only possible because they only play 8 games at home instead of 41.

Although a portion of the atmospheric advantage the NFL has is due to the importance of each game, the Seahawks do "game day" better than any franchise (in any sport) I've ever experienced.

The Canucks took notice of that a while back & have attempted (unsuccessfully) to bite their ideas on a few occasions (remember the 7th man ceremony? ).

Hopefully at some point the Canucks figure out that originality & an organic approach to building tradition is what makes it last.

I wish this offseason would move along a little quicker... I'm already onto the scenarios where we keep neither goaltender.

What do you see with it?

There are so many possibilities.. I actually think bringing in a quality coach with an average goaltender (Mike Smith) and trading both goalies for as much return as possible to bulk up the offense would be good.

The only thing is.. if Mike Smith signs around 3.5 million.. is it worth that extra little bit of cap space to trade CS? To me the return of that trade would have to be fairly monumental to make it worth it.
