I was in the minority at the time, but I lobbied for Homer to sign Vokoun for a couple of years and bring Bobo along at a more manageable pace. He reminded me somewhat of Pelle Lindbergh - athletic, quick, and a competitor.

I didn't like the Breeze signing. I didn't like what I read about him. I didn't see him as a good fit. And I knew it would've been the end of Bobo's tenure here.

I was dog tired of the Flyers chasing their tail regarding the goaltending position. I liked what I saw in Bobo and though the kid had a chance with the proper handling. But as always, the future was now with the Flyers and my opinion (as it usually should) was again ignored.

I was with you at the time. What made it worse is that Vokoun was (and still is) the steadier goaltender -- and he's ended up costing peanuts compared to what Bryz has been raking in.

A lot of us were hoping the focus would be on grooming a true long-term solution in net... if that wasn't Bob, we were talking about other young guys like Bernier and Schneider and Bishop. Vokoun would have been the perfect bridge signing for that kind of plan.

It's really turned out to be one epic misstep by the Flyers.

Funny, that was the story by a few reports including this blog....was I there, no but neither were u.....pure speculation, no.....there were many that collaborated the story....connect the dots and lets move on.....I'm a 42 year old and not into he she she said stuff but there is something that caused the flyers to ship them out and fast....there was a party atmosphere w/ Lupol, carter, Richards, etc....something had to be done.

Outside of the Bryz contract the UFA goalie market has been a buyer's market the last two years. If the Flyers buy out Bryz, they should be able to acquire a solid veteran goalie rather inexpensively. I don't think it is out of the question to have Mason and a vet be less against the cap then Bryz's current hit.

I will be very suprised if Backstrom, Smith, and Lu (if he becomes available) can get a multi-year contract for over $4 million/yr. I just don't see it.

Mackinnon make Colorado think about it a little more. He is defiantly out playing jones tonight.

Halifax is outplaying Portland, it took a bit but Halifax put their team speed on display in the 2nd.

Agreed. Halifax is a deep deep team. Defence is underrated.

It wasn't a bad game as the score might suggest, but Portland's goalie didn't help his team

How about our pick + Schenn for Florida to get Mackinnon? If not enough, + Read.

Edit: B. Schenn, I mean

I said this earlier but i'd be totally in favor of signing Tim Thomas to a 1 or 2 year deal. He did an amazing job helping Tuuka Rask grow, I could see him doing the same for Mason, him (Mason) and Rask seem like sort of similar goalies style-wise.

Mackinnon is a future franchise forward. Try Voracek + B Schenn to start. Plus, if we have a surplus of anything on this team it's centers.

That much?

As for why: you said it: projected franchise center. As for surplus, well we would have exactly the same # once the trade is done.

Yep, and Alexandre Daigle was a franchise player in his draft year, too.

Hell, he broke all of Mario Lemieux's records in the QMJHL.

MacKinnon may well turn into a fantastic player in the NHL. Hell, I've said more than once if I was the Flyers and had the top pick, he'd be my choice. But potential is just that-potential-until it is realized.

It wasn't that long ago that Brayden Schenn was seen as a potential franchise forward himself.

I think he still has the potential to become a 1st line forward, maybe only a tier or 2 below elite.

I never said we should, he said it I'd rather keep him and convert him back to the wing to play with Coots on a line, and use the pick to take Pulock, a possible future first pairing dman.

You can make any excuses you want for the moves the Flyers have made over the last few year...it's an embarrassment however you view it. They have given giant contracts to players and bailed on them shortly thereafter. They have anointed a player as the future of the organization, the next Bobby Clarke, and then traded him away. They gave up on a good young goalie and threw away too much money and too many years on a goalie with known character flaws because they have no patience or plan. Over and over again they try for the quick fix, they throw money at the problem, too many years and too much money, guaranteed contracts, no-trade clauses, giving up on their young high draft picks. Embarrassing. And it will be another embarrassment this summer when they throw money away to get rid of their franchise goalie.

True, you suggested him and Jakub Voracek, who just won the team's MVP award and is developing into a top notch winger in his own right
