He made it to the Conference Finals just last year.

And his playoff stats and regular season stats are almost exactly the same. That is, they're both outstanding. It's not his fault the Rangers haven't won a Cup.

Lundqvist vents frustration after OT loss - "Have I played bad in overtime? No. Can I score? No."

uh-oh. did csp just throw his team under the bus?! controversy! omg! i can't belieeeeeve he said that!!!

- hammarby31

Did they have to badger him into throwing teammates under the bus, like the Bryz/Coburn thing?

Lundqvist is a much better goalie than Bryzgalov. His consistency is incredible.

On Edler, F that guy. Filthy hit on Staal. The guy is by many accounts soft and was completely disengaged in the vancouver playoffs. Not giving up major pieces for this guy.
- Just5

I agee, cringed when I saw that very dirty and classless hit.

What has Bryzgalov ever done in the playoffs in Philly or Pheonix? Will take Hank over Bryz any day not even a close comparison.

Already made it. See an above post I made.

i find that to be a plausible rationale, but ultimately unconvincing given the performance so far, the off ice team related issues (which do exist) and the cap risks of an early retirement. and i should add that jsaq's point about the lavi dynamic is certainly valid as well.

Well, obviously he's a bad teammate. And he can play well enough in regulation, but he obviously can't handle the pressure of playoffs OT.

not much. he was excellent in a few games that helped anaheim win the cup while guigere was unavailable. he dragged a phx team tot he playoffs two years in a row. he was the best player against the devils last year.

And what about that nonsense on 24/7 with the guitar? And after he and his team underperformed in last year's conference finals, how does he respond? By racing cars? How about practicing those playoffs OTs?

I don't think Edler was deliberately trying to injure Staal, but it was reckless and stupid hit. He fully deserved to get suspended for the remainder of the tournament (as the IIHF ruled today).

As for the playoffs, people look for scapegoats, and defensemen are nearly as convenient as goalies when the entire team stinks. People often label defensemen "soft" when they are big guys who don't often rattle the boards with big hits. I also do not believe for a second that Edler suddenly became disinterested.

The current corps of media here pretty much guarantees they will find a way to create goalie drama no matter who is in net. It's easier on them than actually doing a good job.
- bodiva88

I pay zero attention to the Philly MSM. They don't even exist to me. If the Flyers find a goaltender who stops the puck, they will be forced to try and write about hockey.
