shin pads should be your best piece of protective IMO.
- Fountain-San

Yeah, awesome shin pads. No need to be concerned with silly helmets or anything like that.

Sticks, Skates and Gloves I spend a lot on. Shinpads a bit....everything else is 10-15 years old.

Naturally. They match your skates:

I bought my current skates September 15, 2001.

Why? Don't want to wear those big Craig Ludwig things.
- hscesq

I wear the big ones because I prefer them, but you can get slim shin pads.

I have an older ccm helmet....but I tend not to fall.

I find I get a lot more slashes and shots of the shins than I do my head.

I have skates older than that; just need to replace the blade-holder (whatever it's actually called) on one of them. I love them.

I'm just saying...take a slapshot in the Richard, and it won't matter if you're wearing $500 shin pads or have a couple of IKEA catalogues taped to your shins.

I have an older Bauer helmet I like a lot. Just bought Brayden one of these:

As for slashes and shots to the shins, I guess I must be a better, faster skater, so I understand where you're coming from. I am not concerned with falling. I am concerned with sticks, pucks and whatever else hitting me in the head.
