Grigo, one more year closer to being an epic bust. In part to the unearned praise heaped upon him by a certain blogger with no real hockey sense.

Bustarenko?
Grigo-Daigle?

25 games 1 goal.

He's right. The Super Bowl years were the exception to the rule, and they didn't even win any of those. The only "tradition" the Bills have is one of mediocrity, and even that might be generous.

The Sabres are only slightly better, though that might have a lot to do with the fact that there are more playoff positions available in the NHL.

- buffalofan19

If we're talking championships here, then ok.

But the Sabres have the 6th best winning pct in league history.

its still irrelevant to what brandon said

are we really going to criticize russ brandon for introducing a new gm and saying hes going to restore us to the success we once had because we only had success for a short term of the existence?

thats just being a naysayer for no reason at all

I find it ironic that we criticize Pittsburgh fans for a late surge of interest when our arena was just as barren essentially during the same time period. They also had the same "bankruptcy" excuse we did as well.

Were they really? I was only a kid during those years but I vaguely remember high attendance rates during some of those years..

Thats an unfair assesment. The team was in piss poor shape and the fans were totally demoralized. Just like what happened here when we screwed Peca and then the owners put 3.2 Billion up their noses. We were demoralized as a fanbase and we didn't want that stench on us so most of us walked away for a bit. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

They won back to back stanley cups in 91-92. Much different scenario then Buffalo who never did that and had an owner that was stealing money.

The bankruptcy of the two teams could not be any more different.

Buffalo Bankrupcty didnt want to be associated with and pay for something run by crooks and conartists.
Pittsburgh bankruptcy. Aw we stink, oh hey look the Steelers.

Full Disclosure: This may not be completely accurate at all.

Sigh. It just goes to show what I've been saying for a few years: we love to beat our chests about what a great hockey market we are here, and we're armed with a million excuses for the million times we don't act like one.

When have we not acted like one? It sounds like a dumb question but seriously when? During our bankruptcy years? Like one of the other posters said, our fanbase was demoralized by a string of horrible events. If you are referring to our booing, I fail to see how that makes us a bad hockey market. Leafs fans threw waffles on the ice...does that make them a non hockey market. Ottawa's fan base during its bankruptcy years was at an all time low, does that make Canada's capital a bad hockey market?

You can site an example for almost every team in the NHL (particularly in the states) where attendance has been poor and there has been an excuse (good or bad). IMO given what this team has been through and it's lack of accomplishments I think the fact that our fans still stick around is impressive.

We've had this discussion a few times. The World Jr's was a huge dissapointment from the American fan standpoint. And that goes for more than just Buffalo. I was talking to Canadian fans from Newfoundland, Vancouver, Ottawa. We didn't get much local support less from Pittsburgh, Long Island or any other drivable hockey market.

As far as Sabres support they get tons. Then considering how average they are its even more amazing. How long will it last? That depends. Winning fixes everything.

I am pretty sure grigo is really feeling the pressure that Garth has placed upon his shoulders with all of his blogs.. I bet when he can't sleep at night he pulls them up and reads them over and over wondering where he went wrong and why he has become such a huge failure at being a 18 year old rookie

side topic, anyone else here warming up to the idea of trading down with the 16th pick?

It's highly unlikely we find a decent deal to move up for one of the top 3 and considering how deep the draft is, maybe we could swing a deal to add another 1st round pick. Something like:

16th overall and another pick for 25 +28 from Calgary or

16th overall + a forward for pick 19 and 23 from Columbus

If it's as deep a draft as everyone thinks it is, this maybe a really good move for us especially since we add an extra 1st rounder without giving up the 8th pick.

In the history of American sports there has never been a "role model" fanbase to take after. Who are Buffalo fans supposed to act like? Whatever your answer to that question is I can guarantee there was a time period when their fanbase was poor. Fanbases are so cylical along with their teams success but I'm confident in saying Buffalo sports has had a pretty consistent fanbase and support.

trade it to some bubble team for a 3rd and next years #1 in hopes that they crumble and we get a top pick next year.
