Swiss win 2-1 over the Czechs.

Voracek with a glorious chance to tie the game late vs the Swiss in their QF.

Perhaps we target the Swiss goalie, he seems to be playing great with a mediocre team playing a "team" game in front of him.... oh wait, that's Martin Gerber. My bad!

Here is my ideal off season... (assuming we buy out both Bryz and Briere)

Buyout Bryz and Danny... do not re-sign any current FA's besides Gag (2.0 mil)..
Right off the bat you are saving right around 16 mil...

Trade Hartnell to Van. for Edler (add .8 to the cap) right around 15 mil.

Sign Mason Raymond (3.25), Emery (1.5, let him split time with Mason like he did with Crawford) and Zubrus(2.5-3). That would leave you with around 7.25 mill... add in Simmonds raise (around 2 mill) and Laughton (1.1) and you would be left with about 4 mill in cap space.

Gags-G-Voracek
Simmonds-Schenn-Read
Raymond-Couts- Zubrus
Rinaldo-Laughton- Talbot/Rosehill?

Edler/Schenn
Timonen/Coburn
Meszy/Grossmann
Gusty?

Mason
Emery

I think in that scenario, the Flyers would trade a defenseman. I personally don't see Vancouver trading Edler, but we'll see. No real facts behind that. Just doesn't make sense for them to do so to me.

Ragnarsson was out, too.

They didn't make the Finals, but I think that was the best Flyers team in the 20 years I've been a fan.

ah, it was game 3. thought it was 1 or 2. he was a huge loss.

oh and i forgot about timander. he was healthy, and in fact was the dman at the left point who shot the puck that primeau eventually scored on the rebound to tie game 6 in the 3rd period.

That's fairly close to what I would like to see. If Edler is available and we have to deal Hartnell or Simmonds, I'd bite the bullet and deal Harts.

Mason/Emery in a similar situation as the current Hawks rotation can work, I'm on board with that. Gagne re-signing, sign me up.

My concerns are Gagne being able to play top line LW for a full season, and signing Raymond and Zubrus.

Lavvy has already been there, done that, and has the t-shirt from when he coached Martin Gerber.

He was the guy Lavvy benched in favor of Cam Ward to win the Cup in Carolina as I recall.

Good, there's precedent then. Lets sign Gerber, make him the number 1 goalie, bench him for someone else and win the Cup.

Wow. That link had the following sentence:

Rookie Joni Pitkanen, a healthy scratch the last two games, will take Ragnarsson's spot for Game 4 on Saturday. Dennis Seidenberg will be called up from the AHL's Philadelphia Phantoms to be a backup

How far has Seidenberg come in his career, at this point?

Then every year is a success. Some years you just have to loosen your definition of almost.

My memory is weak here...did he bench him or did he make the switches at the right time?

Oh I know, I've seen first hand Mr. Gerber for a few years. Maybe we bench him in the first round next season, and find our Cam Ward? Wishful thinking.

I really dont think Seidenberg is that good. He's a top pairing guy (in my idiot opinion) who isnt really a top pairing guy. His defense partner is some guy named Beano Shaara or something. I forget, exactly.

Doubt that Backstrom would sign for 2 years. And If he would, it wouldn't be cheap. And I assume he wants to be a starter.
- MJL

depends on the mkt. when bryz and vokoun were the only significant veteran options, the latter was left holding the bag because the mkt just wasn't there. there will be enuf options out there that we can't say for sure what backstrom will be offered. as long as we don't do something stupid like trading for the rights of a UFA, we would be in the drivers seat.

He was a real promising player but had two things going against him.

1. He was a young player playing for a Ken Hitchcock coached team

2. He broke his leg in training camp and took some time to come back to full strength.

Hey Guys,

Do you think that they could buy Briere out and then resign him for a 2 mil a year contract. I mean they would get the cap relief and he would still get paid for his contract because he was bought out and then they can just pay him the difference with his new contract?

Maybe he can return to Philly for the 14-15 season. He'll only be 33.

You should talk to some Brooons fans. They love him and he doesn't just play with Chara. He and Chara eat up the bulk of the defense minutes playing together and separately.

No.

I think Bill needs to dedicate a section of his blog to this CBA topic every day until both our CBOs have been used.

We traded them half their team to win a cup, least they could do is throw us a bone

To be fair, they don't have Howson to iron out the details for them anymore
